Forums - Sony - Sony Announces Late 2008 / Early 2009 Lineup

Oh exquise me. I didn't know it were just games made by Sony. Alright then.

Still, (and I understand why MGS4 is not on it, please,) a game being a month away from release is no reason not to include it in a list. Just saying.

People bashing the FIRST PARTY LINEUP are just jerks....fortunately they're just poor souls who can't afford/won't buy a PS3 anyway, so they're just trolling...quite pathetic, too.

LBP is the only must buy for me on that list. No word from Infamous or Prototype? Or were those not being made or published by Sony?

I see you like sandbox games

Prototype is made by Radical, distributed by Sierra. Infamous is PS3 exclusive as Sucker Punch is 2nd party (if not 1st) and published by Sony.

Not usually.  I hated the GTA games.  These seem different and new though.  I like the idea of sandbox worlds.  I just think that so far they've greatly disapointed in the gameplay by focusing too much on making sure their was a large sandbox world.

So if not published i guess that means Infamous will be mid next year at best?

In my opinion the line-up looks fairly weak, I wonder whether there will be any surprise games at E3 or TGS that give the PS3 a boost.

In my opinion, your post is fairly weak. Are you saying another publisher has a better list?

Personally, I was just expecting Sony to be a lot more agressive ...

Resistance 2 and Motorstorm 2 are going to be good games but nothing to get overly excited about, and it is a somewhat sad statment that Sony is already releasing sequels to PS3 games before they have produced many of their bigger franchises from the PS2. Their line-up has a massive bulk of first person shooters (SOCOM, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2) even though the system as a whole already has a massive bulk of first person shooters. On top of all of that, I still have doubts that Killzone 2 will be particularly good or that Little Big Planet can live up to the hype.

Maybe I was expecting too much from Sony, and it was unrealistic to think that they would release sequels to The Getaway, Jak and Daxter, God of War, Twisted Metal, or Sly Cooper; or maybe I was foolish to expect that Sony might actually have a game or two to release this year that we haven't played on the PS3 already, or that wasn't announced over a year ago.

Hum...Resistance 2 is my most anticipated shooter for this entire year, so I'd disagree it's nothing to get excited about. Everyone who has tried LBP is very excited. Sequels to The Getaway, God of War, and Twisted Metal are already underway. Sly Cooper guys are making Infamy. Jak guys are making Uncharted 2. Sony is also working on The Agency, the first chance for a console MMO to succeed since FF11.

Huh? Age of Conan? Champions Online? APB? Huxley? You don't think even one of those could succeed?

Perhaps Age of Conan, the first M-rated MMO. We'll see. I was under the assumption that The Agency is ahead of those others in terms of development, but I could be wrong.

I think the list is tepid at best at least in regards to the PS3. I think Sony managed to go from the best first party lineup this year to the worst first party lineup this year. The reality is that Microsoft has more games they are publishing, with greater variation in genre, and their games are more renowned properties.

We must never lose sight of the fact that Motorstorm, Resistance, SOCOM, NBA, Killzone, and Buzz are not AAA franchises. There are a few decent franchises, but nothing spectacular. Where as the 360 is actually sporting known performers. Sequels to series that are more critically acclaimed. Ninja Gaiden, Gears of War, and Banjo Kazooie. The 360 titles just have a better pedigree.

Then you have Nintendo with the highly acclaimed expected sequels. Once again titles that are probably more diverse, and more likely to have fantastic pedigree. I wish I could say more, but Nintendo is wonderful at hiding their cards.

Anyway the Sony published PS3 lineup is not a proven commodity by any stretch in fact its a lineup with a lot to prove. I think its just something that should be remembered. This lineup isn't all that great or acclaimed outside of fanatical circles. I think Sony should at the very least have had a few more diverse titles in their offering.

First of all, what does NIntendo have planned for late this year? I'd really like to know. Gears of War is the only game that has sold more than Resistance, I believe. Motorstorm and Socom are also million sellers. Those and Killzone are as much AAA potential as Ninja Gaiden and Banjo. As for being more varied...I find this funny, and again, this is not a complete list anyway, but Microsoft has no answer for Little Big Planet. No answer for Motorstorm this year. No sports games. Perhaps another Scene It game to compete with the superior Buzz and the controller Microsoft copied? Who knows. They have no answer for Singstar, either. Microsoft has done a good job at finding third party games to publish to make their lineup more diverse (Too Human and Ninja Gaiden, genres that generally perform better on Sony consoles), but those are just 3rd-person action titles. Force Unleashed and many other multiplatform titles take care of those genres already (Devil May Cry). I can just as easily say Motorstorm 2 makes Sony's lineup more diverse even though third parties release a lot of racing games. Also, God of War 3 might be early 2009 as well.

So Siren is going to be a downloadable title? That kinda blows. Hopefully the episodes aren't too big. The first party lineup looks alright.

I am definitely sure that this line up is pretty amazing for the PS3.

Man that lineup sucks. After FFXIII there better be something else that I must play for mine, I swear to god I have had buyers remorse since the day I bought it.

Then you should have probably bought no system at all ;)

I mean, it's all spin, by you sony guys.

Tell me, make me a real list of games that you want to buy for the PS3 and out beside each one tell me why. Then I might be more open.

Until then, lemme see:

MGS4, FFXIII, that's all I, as an avide PS3 fan, care about.

LBP maybe, but jeez, Killzone 2?

Give me WKS and The Last Remnant, thanks.

Exclusive games for PS3 I want.

MGS4: Awesome

FFXIII: I love Final Fantasy

WKS: It's a JRPG

Disgaea 3: I love the series

I didn't buy a PS3 to pay FPS games on it, and I don't think anyone who owned a JRPG centric PS2 did either. I think there are just a lot of sony fanboys lying to themselves and changing their gaming tasts according to what games are released on their systems.

It's not a terrible lineup, really, including multiplats, but it certainly isn't the "best lineup ever" wtf man!? Best lineup ever!?

I don't need your console war.

You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Nintendo doesn't plan what it's 3rd party game developers do. Since you brought it up, we'll likely see Fatal Frame 4, Icarus, Tales of Symphonia 2, Fragile, Deadly Creatures, and Disaster as exclusives, with many others(like the new clover studios game).

However, many great Nintendo games already came out this year, not so for Sony. No More Heroes, Brawl, Kart, Wii Fit. This doesn't include multiplats like Rock Band, GHIV, CoD5, and Ghostbusters.

Thinking the Wii has no lineup is simply a matter of not know what you're talking about, wouldn't you agree?

As for Microsoft's 3rd party games getting "replaced" by DMC?

It's a perfect way to marginalize Ninja Gaiden 2, which will be better than DMC 4 by a huge margin, most likely.

Ninja Gaiden 2
Too Human
Fable 2
Gears 2
Alan Wake(sure it's 09, but this topic is late 08, early 09, btw)

..and games like Tales of Vespira that will probably be timed or permanent exclusive as well.

You act like Haze or Killzone 2 are games with a lot of hype around then. Only in the Sony world, I imagine, because jeez, I wouldn't trade a game on that MS list for Haze or KZ2, ever.

Resistance is a different story, it actually has a pedigree to be decent or even great, so I concede that Resistance could be on the list with those exclusives.

However, I don't see how the 08 PS3 lineup blows anything away, considering it's actually worse or equal to the 360 list in my eyes when you add in multiplats like GB, TLR, and others.

The fact is, those lists are relative balanced, and MGS4 is the best game on either list, but it doesn't make the Sony list automatically better. To me, the sony list is worse, and neither list is awe inspiring.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

ZenfoldorVGI,
this was my point.
I can't see any company to blow their rivals away. All of them have good games for 2008.

Crap, White Knight Story is published by Sony? Perhaps they just aren't sure yet and will announce it later...but yeah...could be after early 09. Oh well.

Yes it is, I'm not sure what's taking Level 5 so long to complete it.
