I think the list is tepid at best at least in regards to the PS3. I think Sony managed to go from the best first party lineup this year to the worst first party lineup this year. The reality is that Microsoft has more games they are publishing, with greater variation in genre, and their games are more renowned properties.

We must never lose sight of the fact that Motorstorm, Resistance, SOCOM, NBA, Killzone, and Buzz are not AAA franchises. There are a few decent franchises, but nothing spectacular. Where as the 360 is actually sporting known performers. Sequels to series that are more critically acclaimed. Ninja Gaiden, Gears of War, and Banjo Kazooie. The 360 titles just have a better pedigree.

Then you have Nintendo with the highly acclaimed expected sequels. Once again titles that are probably more diverse, and more likely to have fantastic pedigree. I wish I could say more, but Nintendo is wonderful at hiding their cards.

Anyway the Sony published PS3 lineup is not a proven commodity by any stretch in fact its a lineup with a lot to prove. I think its just something that should be remembered. This lineup isn't all that great or acclaimed outside of fanatical circles. I think Sony should at the very least have had a few more diverse titles in their offering.

First of all, what does NIntendo have planned for late this year? I'd really like to know. Gears of War is the only game that has sold more than Resistance, I believe. Motorstorm and Socom are also million sellers. Those and Killzone are as much AAA potential as Ninja Gaiden and Banjo. As for being more varied...I find this funny, and again, this is not a complete list anyway, but Microsoft has no answer for Little Big Planet. No answer for Motorstorm this year. No sports games. Perhaps another Scene It game to compete with the superior Buzz and the controller Microsoft copied? Who knows. They have no answer for Singstar, either. Microsoft has done a good job at finding third party games to publish to make their lineup more diverse (Too Human and Ninja Gaiden, genres that generally perform better on Sony consoles), but those are just 3rd-person action titles. Force Unleashed and many other multiplatform titles take care of those genres already (Devil May Cry). I can just as easily say Motorstorm 2 makes Sony's lineup more diverse even though third parties release a lot of racing games. Also, God of War 3 might be early 2009 as well.
