As far as Smash's franchise size, it was the best selling GC game above every single title you mentioned as bigger except Mario Kart. Of course if you count handheld games then I think it goes Mario > Pokemon > Smash > others.

If you count handheldgames, Smash Melee is behind Nintendogs and Pokemon by a factor of 2, behind two different Mario and Brain Age games, and behind Animal Crossing. Smash might have been Nintendo's #2 franchise behind Pokemon 5 years ago, but things have changed.

Well, let me put it this way: It's unfair to rate smash below those handheld games when Smash doesn't have a DS incarnation. The DS boosted all of those much higher than they would be on any other system. As far as home platform IPs, Brain Age and Pokemon bombed on the Wii and although AC is big it's not Smash big. In the home console world Smash is still Nintendo's second biggest franchise.

And they should do a Smash bros with wifi on the DS! It's a guaranteed success! Something like the original Smash Bros is totally doable on a DS. Two screens, twice the action! Just without stylus controls though. It has to remain simple and fun.

There's a huge black hole in the market when it comes to handheld fighting games. I see no reason why Nintendo shouldn't do it.

I agree it should be made on the DS, though rather than mediocre 3D like the original Smash Bros. I would rather have the characters in well polished 2D.

Naznatips I know what you mean, 2D for the characters and perhaps 3D for the levels that requier it.  Add in a great single player and it can be the next New Mario Bros when it comes to sales.

That would have been great. They should call it "Super Paper Smash Bros"

lol no I didn't mean 3D backgrounds. I was thinking something more like this game: http://youtube.com/watch?v=tlaJw_TUoTc

It's one of my favorite DS games. An amazing handheld brawler. You don't need to know any Japanese to play it because it has a full translation guide on gamefaqs.

On updates: Stage or character. Any minute now..

Edit: Mr Resetti LOL!

Update: Mr. Resetti

It’s Mr. Resetti from Animal Crossing. At long last he makes his appearance!

Th-there he is!!!

I’m just going to come out and say it: when Mr. Resetti appears, all he does is lecture you. Whether you’ve reset the game or not, he just lectures...

Huh? What’s that, Mr. Resetti?

Oh! Umm... Sorry about that...

Uh... Umm... I suppose you would. My mistake...

(...This is so long...)

With Mr. Resetti, you can enjoy these terribly appreciated lectures even in Smash. He’s an Assist Trophy like no other.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

lol...I thought I had pulled up Smash Bros Mojo...what a weird update.

Wow, what a coincidence, since we've been talking about AC characters...I suppose this still doesn't rule out the AC character...though I still don't see how the AC player character would make for a good fighter.

you don't?  An axe, a fishing poll, a net... he'll be one of the most unique and interesting fighters in the game.
