Firggin finally online is annoounced. To bad there are no online leader boards or anything like that. That would be very cool.
Still... even the announcement of online play by itself is more than good enough for me.

That isn't an announcement, just a confirmation. Online was announced months ago, even before the Wii launched. It just was just only mentioned in passing by the gaming press.

That's not true at all. The only thing that was announced was "Some Wi-Fi functionality will be implemented." A lot of people jumped to a huge conclusion that this meant online battle modes. It deffinitely did not mean that. This is an announcement, and a huge one at that.

It was. The director confirmed that he would include online, even if he felt it wasn't the best experience. He said that months ago. It's in one of ign's previews for the game. Again, you didn't see it because it got so little coverage.

I hover over every single detail in this game. Link me to anything official confirming online multiplayer.

I didn't claim it was an official confirmation. It was an interview, and I can't remember the link. It someone on another forum who posted that.

You have yet to link me to any confirmation at all... official or non. I'm not going to just accept your opinion on it lol. If you are going to claim something like "online was announced months ago" then you need to show some proof. Because apparently you are the only person in the world who saw this supposed announcement.

Did you read the bolded part? How can I post a link I don't remember? I am trying to remember keywords in the article so I can find it.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

AHA!

E3 2006: Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Wii's big brawler is full of surprises.
First details and screenshots inside!
May 10, 2006 (See that date?)

"Even better, the game will be fully online playable in addition to featuring a robust multiplayer mode. "My plan is to include Wi-Fi connection compatibility and online functionality. One of the primary reasons Super Smash Bros. Brawl was created was that Nintendo, when taking Wii online, wanted to have Smash Bros. to do that," added Sakurai."

Right there, months before the Wii even launched, online was confirmed. The details were not there, but Nintendo was evidently working on that.

Now this isn't the interview I mentioned about how Sakurai didn't feel that online isn't the best experience for this game*, but that wasn't telling us online was out. Nintendo never did that.

However, this was given at the same time Solid Snake was announced as a character, so people were evidently too excited by that news to notice the announcement of online.

So this recent news was not an announcement of online, but of the details.

*Now don't ask me for that link. I can't remember the key words to google it, and I can't even find the link in the message board where I found it, since that board has flushed its archives.

Bah, another Pokeyman. I suppose they have to show something less awesome after the last few days, and Pokemon fans are probably pretty excited, but I couldn't care less. Please give us Ganondorf later this week, mr. Cherrywell.

Why are you two still arguing about the online thing? Yes, Sakurai said he intended to include online at a very early stage, and yes, some idiots quoted him as saying online confirmed, which it was not. It's been implied and hinted at many times, but a lot of things can changed while a game's in development, and only now did it become even close to 100% certain that the game was going to be online.

That seems like a confirmation to me, has since it was quoted. What words do you think he should have said to make it a confirmation to you?
