So, if the PS3 is the most preferred console in most groups, why doesn't the sales numbers support the surveys?
Or could it be that the "Playstation" is synonyme for games console for most people.

Does anyone else remember the demographic information Nintendo released about Japan last year which demonstrated that the Wii was the most popular console for everyone except for male gamers between the age of 13 and 18?

It's clear. The Wii is for kids and girls.

There are many different factors involved (entry price, form factor, HDTV penetration, etc), I guess most parents prefer their kids to play cute cartoon-like games, especially for pre-teens and teen girls. If so, it's IMO good they seem to agree themselves as well.

Earlier surveys showed adult males in general prefer the PS3, but adult females prefer the Wii.

IMO both are great family consoles, the PS3 especially for its multi-media features in addition to the most impressive console games available. But the PS3 lacks kid-friendly games, the biggest such game is IMO Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction. Games like Jak & Daxter and LittleBigPlanet will be good additions and a cheaper slimline PS3 I imagine will have a positive effect as well in the future.

Whats ur point with that poll? I have no reason not believe that poll myself. But im sure there are quite a few explanations for this, and here's one:

59% wont buy MGS4 because they dont own a PS3: Maybe they cant afford one.

There should be one more option on that poll: Would u buy MGS4 is u had a PS3?

As for Wii been more popular in small ages, thats normal i guess. Nothing is wrong with that. As for me i love both PS3 and Wii.

I read the article. Percentage that rated each console good or great was:
PS3 69%
Wii 64%
360 58%

24% did own a Wii, 23% 360 and 21% PS3.

20% of the interviewed were planning on buying a console.

So, since there was a huge overlap and close percentage, apparently it doesn't tell too much about what console they are going to buy after all, since the 20% who plan to buy a console, apparently weren't asked which one they are going to buy.

11-18 year olds prefer the PS3? Well yeah, that's the age when violence is at it's coolest, stuff perceived as "kiddy" is at it's worst, and brand loyalty matters the most.

How old was the average gamer again these days, closer to thirty or something?
