Forums - Sales - If Nintendo had released another traditional console

Let's say it's called...the Nintendo Wave.

Slightly weaker then the PS3/360, but still strong enough that games from them are ported over rather easily. (like with last gen...the PS2 was a lot weaker then the GCN and Xbox) Controller looks pretty much just like the Classic Controller.

There is no Wii Channel system but something similar to the PS3/360 menu systems. Virtual Console does still exist.

Most of the triple AAA Wii titles would have still come out, but a lot of the games that rely solely on the Wiimote stuff would not. (no RE4 Wii Edition, no Rayman Raving Rabbids, no Wii Play or Wii Sports)

There would be a lot of PS3/360 games being ported over though, such as Call of Duty 4, Resident Evil 5 and others.

The DS would have still been released, and been pretty much identical to what it's doing now.

The online would be free, and similar to PS3 online but a bit worse.

And finally, the system would cost 280 dollars.

How do you think they'd be doing right about now? I think it'd be pretty bad.

Something like

Xbox 360 - 25 million

PS3 - 18 million

Wave - 8 million

and a end generation total of

PS3 - 70 million

Xbox 360 - 65 million

Wave - 15 million

possibly causing Nintendo to drop out of the home console market.

As opposed to what I think will happen with the Wii

Wii - 75 million

PS3 - 50 million

Xbox 360 - 40 million.

But anyway, how do you think Nintendo would be doing if they had released the traditional console I described above?

Not as good as they are now...

Nintendo still doomed?

If Ninty went traditional, it'd be a whole different console race.

It would be doing better than you're saying due to the price point. They would probably be in 3rd but not at 8 million. Gamecube performed better than that. I'd say that it would be about on par with the Gamecube.

It would be very different for sure. I am glad they invented this wiimote - nunchuck thing. I would be even happier if the wii's power was a little bit stronger.

Your estimates for consoles as they stand now seem to be very conservative in relation to other people's estimates.

Yeah I doubt it'd be as bad as you put it where they end the gen with 15 million but it would be bad. Especially if they still had an inferior online system to LIVE and PSN. Then what's the point of getting those multiplats like CoD?

Yeah, I'll admit that if Nintendo went traditional, they would have gotten owned.

However, to extrapolate a meaning from that:

Nintendo making the Wii was the best move their company ever made, and since most Sony fanboys will admit Nintendo woulda gotten owned,  then the Wiis development was totally justified and perfect, and can't be called stupid by any Nintendo foeboys ever again.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

super mario galaxy would have been HD!

The game market would collapse as all three console makers would be vying for a small rather insignificant "hard-core" market that would not spend enough money for all 3 to survive stagnation/recession in some of the worlds bigger markets.

why would the nintendo have had bad sales? for all you know an HD nint could have taken away all PS3's market because of the price (no blue ray), and with the classical nintendo fanbase overtaken the X360 (if only nint fans bought the GC, then there are 20M of them).
I think the PS3 would have been the one hurt the most by a third HD console. Sure nint would not be printing money, but they would still be well afloat.
