But so did Star Wars and it was THE most influential movie ever

See my Titanic reference. And Battleship Potempkin was the most influential movie ever.

Actually when adjusted for Inflation and population Star Wars was a far bigger movie than Titanic and far more influencial on the industry.  It created the entire big budget special effects movie industry we all take for granted today.

Having said that - Star Wars is eclipsed by Gone With The Wind as the biggest movie in industry history.

As per GTAIV - It is a major hit, there's no denying that.  And the market is big enough for both GTAIV and WiiFit to be major successes.

That was Jaws, in 1975.  Star Wars was 1977.  Some people say Jaws ruined Hollywood in the 70's.  It's been summer blockbusters ever since, and films like the Godfather, Easy Rider, American Graffiti, The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, were the last hurrah of the second golden age of Hollywood, or whatever you want to call it.

Yeah, but that was Spielberg, and we look at all the great movies he's made and forgive him.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

...and Take2 posted a $3bn(*) loss over the last 3 years, and even the sales of GTA4 did not save them from insolvency or being gobbled up by the EABorg...

(* - note, number made up - but its a very significant loss over the last few years...)

Fanboyism aside, even its a sarcastic article theres truth to it after the latest NPD charts.

Hardware
PlayStation 2 124.4K
PlayStation 3 187.1K
PSP 192.7K
Xbox 360 188.0K
Wii 714.2K
Nintendo DS 414.8K

360 GTA IV 1.85mm
Wii Mario Kart w/ wheel 1.12mm
PS3 GTA IV 1.00mm
Wii Play 360K
Wii Super Smash Bros. Brawl 326K
PS3 Gran Turismo 5: Prologue 224K

DS Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time 202K
Wii Guitar Hero III 152K
360 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 141K

Not only that core gaming was shrinking not only in Japan but also in america, BUT... what vgchartz members here that the PS3 was improving in terms of sales wasnt true after all. I think vgchartz overtrack the ps3 and 360 sales too much.

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out
