Forums - Sony - When will PSP 2 be released?

When do you think they'll release it and what changes do you expect?

For reference: PSP arrived in Dec. 2004 (Japan) and Mar 2005 (U.S.) and PSP Slim arrived in Sept. 2007.

Honestly, I don't have a clue, but you know that Nintendo is tinkering with a GBA 2 or DS 2 and PSP has to be worried about that. But with the PSP's HW resurgence in Japan (even though SW still sells poorly), this gives Sony a bit more time. I'm not sure if they'll come out with another model that tweaks a few things beforehand. Do I hear touch screen?

I'll say PSP 2 comes out in Q3 2009.

No way it's 2009. No one wants more powerful handheld games yet. senatorpjt: it has to have dual thumbpads, I agree. They will probably go touchscreen as well.

Early 2009 worlwide or late 2008 Japan.

PSP 2 = 2012
PS4 = 2014

PSP2? I'd guess Late 2010. DS2 probably within six months of PSP2

PSP2 : 2010
Ps4 : 2011

I'm Guessing, but I think its getting announced in 2009 and released in 2011

It really depends on what they want to achieve ...

From what we understand the PSP was supposed to be a cross between the Walkman (iPod) and the Gameboy in order for Sony to gain a foothold (dominance) in two markets that they ignored for far too long; they released the system 18 months before the Gameboy Advance was supposed to get a replacement in an effort to catch Nintendo off guard and establish the next format before Nintendo could respond. It can be argued that the PSP was successful, but I think everyone will admit that Sony fell short of what they were attempting.

Now the iPod is in a position where it can't be stopped, and it has a better chance of gaining a foothold in the gaming industry than the PSP2 has at becomming a media device; the Nintendo DS was heavily underestimated (which won't happen for its follow-up) and Sony will have to think twice before attempting to beat Nintendo at their own game.

What ever it is Nintendo will do better then it with attracting people to buy it!
