GT5P didn't have the opening of GTA IV either. It's easier to keep low openings than big ones.
A better comparison would be Halo 3. It also had a large drop after its first week, but still managed to sell over double that in the long run. If that is also the case here, this game will sell about 12 million total in the long rin.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

GTA4 is sold out in alot of places here, that probably hit sales as well.
This drop was always going to happen. Whats crucial is how it maintains its sales from next week onwards.
Yes, it may drop to *only* 1.5 million this week, but that means that it sold 7.5 million copies in 2 weeks. No game has EVER done that before.
And it will have legs.

The drop off is a little sharper than I would have guessed, but I am more surprised by North American Hardware returning to normal levels for PS360 one week after GTAIV release.

15 million is a little high, but this game will have legs. The drop was expected (maybe not 75%, more like 65%). GTA4 has baller status already so sales are a concern no longer.

What'd you expect for sales to stay in the millions? 1 out of every 4 PS3 owners bought the game in others, 1 out of 3 in America, you think every single console owner is going to buy the game?
Both shortage in xbox version of 360 and PS3 hardware at my store. Can't sell something you don't have.
