It has been confirmed by an industry insider on the PSU forums that with the release of firmware 2.40 a new 2d trophy interface will be implemented(similar to acheivements) followed up by the 3d trophies in Home(due out later this year).It should also be noted that 2.40 is also the set firmware for in game xmb here's his qoute:

The actual Firmware 2.40 might see the light of day alot sooner ( my personal guess would be launch aligned or slightly before MGS4 ).

Sony have updated their own PixelJunk Eden website with a fact sheet. Why do we care? Well, for one, it's PixelJunk, so we care. But we care more about this: listed under "key features" for the game is "Trophy Support". What the hell are "trophies"? There's been a rumour doing the rounds this week that they're a form of achievements for the PS3, small 2D trophy images that are displayed somewhere on the XMB. It was but a whiff of a rumour, but now, it's a rumour with some meat.

I like the idea of a 2d trophy interface better than a 3d one.

^^They're implementing both. My guess is, when you look at a profile you see the 2D ones, and when you go to their apartment in Home there's a 'trophy room'

Looks like update 2.4 will be the biggest they'll ever have (until Home)

i bet people are already trying to figure out how to work around the system like with achievement scores

Yes i knew that but i like the idea of the 2d trophy interface better,its more simplistic and rewarding at least to me.I mean imagine little trophy icons and a gamer score for each trophy.
