I know, that might be the case aswell,,,does GFK AU release their data to public?if so when?

I don't think they do, they sell their data to companies like Sony and Microsoft. But Sony cannot manipulate their data as GfK would protest as they are quoted to be the source and Sony has to present an accurate picture to its shareholders. So IMO over 2:1 it is.

well that's true since GFK is specifically quoted here ,,,,GFK could object if they're not quoted properly.

They usually release quarterly sales. They may be waiting until after tomorrow's Sony earnings announcement until they do this.

where would you find this sales data

Gamespot.

For GTA4 week VGC has these numbers for Australia:
PS3: 7,662 consoles
X360: 9,094 consoles

That's a ratio of 1 : 1.19.

Gfk through Sony says 2:1. That's an enormous discrepancy.

Is VGC over-tracking the X360? On many fronts I'm afraid (not just Aus, but at least in the Others/other-region too).

ioi we need your wisdom here.

I just got off a ban by fishyjoe for "bashing" this site, need anymore "corroborating evidence" mister cherry-picking mod? I have been saying for a while now, PS3 undertracked 360 over lol the proof keeps yet ioi will come and give us the same sorry speech about shipped this sold to retail that sorry excuse then another "unbiased" mod will come and post a decade old star treck face palm.

ON topic: Great news for sony more proof at the inaccuracies of this ste and complete denial of official numbers.

Yes ioi

PLEASE tell us if this GFK person is telling the truth or not....thanks :)

Install base for the end of 2007 according to Sony Australia:

238,000 PS3 (includes Bravia deals, sold in 9 months and 1 week)
306,000 Xbox 360 (21 months and 1 week)

On average about 6.400 PS3s per week.
On average about 3.600 360 per week.

IMO the latest Sony/GfK data and the release of MGS4 makes it seem likely a similar trend will continue for the rest of the year.

At such a rate the PS3 should be able to overtake the 360's total install base for Australia before December 2008 or if sales slow down at least finish the job over the holidays. A good achievement as Australia like the UK are two of the strongest 360 markets outside of North America.

Gfk had PS3 at around 155k at the end of the year, so your number is completely off. The 238k is a recent number released by Sony themselves.

About the article mentioned in the opening post, it states EB accounts for 70% of games sales in Australia, are they really that big there? And does Gfk extrapolate EB's sales into their numbers or are Gfk numbers only 30% or even less than 30% of the total market? Cause if they extrapolated for EB games than you really can't add their numbers again to Gfk totals.

@ koffieboon

You're right, the figures were announced for on the 1st of May 2008.
