Only a rabid fanboy would call the X360 "sinking" when the truth is that the X360 has increased a whopping 40% in world-wide sales in 2008 compared to 2007.

libellule this was a very unneccessary thread.

.....well are you going to mention ps3's or wii's increase? or did you forget to pick those cherries?

But no one was claiming they were sinking. We know those systems increased their sales. The point is that so did the 360.

It's all relative though. Relative to itsself, it's doing great, but relative to the PS3 and Wii, it's sinking. It still has healthy sells, there's no doubting that, it's just that in terms of month-to-month sales, it's in last place amongst the 3. And when you were once in the lead, this situation is called sinking (in THIS generation. Don't try and pull a "since the PS2 was on top, the PS3 must be sinking" or something along those lines)

No. Sinking means a negative. Relativity makes positives look bigger or smaller, but it does not inverse them. So that is just bull.

The 360 is making money now, unlike the Xbox, and according to this week's hardware sales, the 360 is still selling about 250k worldwide, which is mcuh better than it has been doing the past few weeks. Those are not sinking, even from a reletive point of view.

Depends on what criteria your judging , in respect to the 360's performance against [itself] it's not sinking , it's showing a steady improvment . In respect to it's performance against the PS3/Wii it is actualy [sinking] , it is no longer outselling the Wii neither is it outselling the PS3 anymore ( in terms of hardware ) therfore in comparison to where it was and where it is now it is indeed (negativley) sinking.

Microsoft are also far from recouping the cost's of the 360 , RROD , Buying exclusives , 10/10 reviews , Halo 3 advertising , GTA IV DLC and the list goes on.....

In the future the Metal Gear franchise may go multiplatform as well as Gears of War franchise as perdicted by Michael Pachter.

What??? As a side note, this guy really needs to use a spell checker.

LOL, well find

@Slimebeast

well, if you dont focus on the "sinking", it underligns something interesting : the first party support of MS is quite weak and may be a problem for them.

Yes, but that was a typical Sony spin. It's laughable to claim that Sony has "20" studios when half of them are just regional local offices of Sony.

SCE Japan Studio

SCE Foster City Studio

SCE San Diego Studio

SCE Santa Monica Studio

Sony Online Entertainment LLC.

SCE London Studio

SCE Studio Cambridge

SCE Studio Liverpool

And at the same time the guy says MS only has 3, but not even mentioning Microsoft itself! He also didn't mention Ensemble Studios Microsoft and who knows what else.

 What? The only studio on that list that's irrelevent is Cambridge. The rest are all inhouse studios that PRODUCE games (AKA 1st party). You're acting as if all those studios are full of people that do taxes all day.

He links to kotaku for sales information. Kotaku is using vgchartz data. I guess it would have been too difficult for him to link directly to vgchartz. It is a valid point about MS relying too much on third parties. Sony and Nintendo really do have some great first party teams.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

so what happened to second party?

Bull. Compared to last week, both the PS3 and 360 sold 60% more hardware. BOTH had that percentage increase. That can't even be sinking in a reletive manner.

As for costs, the only real expense you listed was the RRoD, and that was deal with last year.

Halo 3 marketing? The game made about $170 million in revenue on the first day. Even if they spent a fraction of that on marketing, it wouldnt' have taken that long to recoup the costs.

As for exclusives, the biggest payout we know of was for GTA, and I would say it's likely Microsoft's cut of that revenue already covered that.

Buying review scores? Now you're just making things up. If you can't use real facts, no wonder you think you can make it look as though the 360 is sinking.

 I was only citing examples of how MS may have run up their cost's , what we do know for certain is that the XBOX 360 has cost MS at least $6.5 Billion dollars , they're no where near recouping that sum , Nintendo hasn't even made that much this generation. I call bull on you , Like I said in comparison to how competetive the 360 was and how competetive it is now the 360 is sinking whether you like to admit it or not , in comparison to itself however it is doing great but we all know self comparisons are pretty useless in this industry.

nice read... as expected, all wii/360 owners are on their tightest defense right now

i know we all have to justify our purchase but to the guy who says the beast is unleashed ie ps3 i would say the puppy has pooed. its a disaster for sony third place and dropping.

Tax write-offs and entire company profits. That's how they did it. Same with Sony and the PS3, which isn't losing as much, but still isn't profitable yet.

And just writing "in comparison" is not enough. Give actual figures to compare to. Without those, you are just blowing smoke, whether you admit it or not.

@Imperial.

Dont bother arguing with that guy. Even after WB went bluray exclusive he was convinced that HD dvd would still pull through and now hes acting like a 6 billion dollar loss is no big deal. Your words are falling of deaf ears because he has his head so far up his ass  that he cant hear you.
