Only a rabid fanboy would call the X360 "sinking" when the truth is that the X360 has increased a whopping 40% in world-wide sales in 2008 compared to 2007.

libellule this was a very unneccessary thread.

.....well are you going to mention ps3's or wii's increase? or did you forget to pick those cherries?

But no one was claiming they were sinking. We know those systems increased their sales. The point is that so did the 360.

It's all relative though. Relative to itsself, it's doing great, but relative to the PS3 and Wii, it's sinking. It still has healthy sells, there's no doubting that, it's just that in terms of month-to-month sales, it's in last place amongst the 3. And when you were once in the lead, this situation is called sinking (in THIS generation. Don't try and pull a "since the PS2 was on top, the PS3 must be sinking" or something along those lines)

MS lead at PS3 launch - 7 million
MS lead today - 6.3 million

Squandered confirmed!!

This is a good way to keep it all in perspective.  Despite the Sony dominance in Europe over the last year, the Xbox 360 has more or less maintained its initial lead.  The reason many people feel the momentum is with the PS3 right now is because the PS3 was selling absolutely awfully last year.

Does anyone else remember how many consecutive months the PS3 was languishing with approximately 100,000 units per month sold in the US?  That was just painful.  Now the PS3 is selling better than the 360 in every region, dominating in Europe.

360 hate is pretty easy to come by.

It's outsold by the PS3 on a weekly basis, around the world. There's enough hate for that.

@Ajax

you may also consider the PS3 started operations in one of those markets (its biggest one) just over a year ago, and already surpassed the 360 there. Also, the lead is definitely less than 6 million, look at my sig.

DMesister, you changed kitties!!!

The Wii and PS3 aren't causing the 360 to sink but they are severley limiting it's growth. Microsoft's strategy for getting excluvies on the 360 won't pay off long term if they actualy want to profit from the 360 this generation , Nintendo and Sony have much better long term software support for their consoles ( via 1st developers ) so they're reliance on Multiplatforms is less and their differientiation is more.

Starcraft must be crying on his keyboard reading this thread.

I just read your sig.......Mr. Greenberg is one cocky SOB. So the PS3 is doomed, even though M$ only has a 5 million console worldwide lead, but the PS3 is outselling them in every market? The original Xbox sold like 22 million, the PS2 sold (and is still selling) 120 million. THAT'S doomed

I have no problem at all mentioning the Wii's increase.  Stating Sony's success is a bit harder TBH...  but I never deny that Sony has an amazing 2008. But the topic and article was about X360 sinking which is just a Sony fanboy lie.

it may not be sinking, but it's not doing as well as it should be. i'll say this time and time again, it has the best online service out of the 3, the highest rated games out of the 3, and is reasonably priced out of the 3. it is up against:

the most expensive console with the least games, and

a console that is ONLY just as powerful as the 360's older brother...and it's losing to both of them.

something is wrong.

No. Sinking means a negative. Relativity makes positives look bigger or smaller, but it does not inverse them. So that is just bull.

The 360 is making money now, unlike the Xbox, and according to this week's hardware sales, the 360 is still selling about 250k worldwide, which is mcuh better than it has been doing the past few weeks. Those are not sinking, even from a reletive point of view.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

In the future the Metal Gear franchise may go multiplatform as well as Gears of War franchise as perdicted by Michael Pachter.

What??? As a side note, this guy really needs to use a spell checker.

LOL, well find

@Slimebeast

well, if you dont focus on the "sinking", it underligns something interesting : the first party support of MS is quite weak and may be a problem for them.

Yes, but that was a typical Sony spin. It's laughable to claim that Sony has "20" studios when half of them are just regional local offices of Sony.

SCE Japan Studio

SCE Foster City Studio

SCE San Diego Studio

SCE Santa Monica Studio

Sony Online Entertainment LLC.

SCE London Studio

SCE Studio Cambridge

SCE Studio Liverpool

And at the same time the guy says MS only has 3, but not even mentioning Microsoft itself! He also didn't mention Ensemble Studios Microsoft and who knows what else.
