Forums - Sony - MGO beta is over, what should Konami learn from it?

bbsin said:

With the MGO beta ending yesterday, I must say after hours and hours of playing (lvl5), It was fun while it lasted. With that being said, it was still a beta test and Konami will have some improvements to make when MGS4 finally hits retail in 4 weeks. What improvements should be in store for MGO after playing the beta?

I will say:

-Less lag, it sucks to get shot in the head 1-2 seconds AFTER you kill the guy.

-Reduce range of shock knife, the range is insane, atleast make players earn more knife shock range by leveling up the skill.

-Make a skill that speeds up stun recovery or just make it quicker to escape from after stuned.

-Make the head's hitbox smaller, i give and take headshots all the time, even if I'm spraying.

-Increase autoaim lvl1 a bit more, it's completely useless as is.

-More slots as character level increases, i want more slots...

-Add some sort of octo-camo skill, it doesn't have to be 99% like snake's.

-Airstrikes, Why not?

-Helmet, an option to protect from one headshot.

-CQC counter, maybe it's there already... but i havent seen it.

-EDIT: a button that makes your screen turn around 180 degrees immediately.

That's all I could think about now. What do you all think?

Lag sucks. However, moving seems to be pretty much lag-free. But hits lag way too much. Knife range is good, only hitboxes seem to lag. Stun duration is good (encourages stunning) but recovering is extremely annoying. Some other way for recovering would be good. Something's definitely wrong with hitting. Somehow too easy yet I can't do it when I aim in the head. Autoaim... Dunno. Not sure when they autoaim and when they're just unbeliavably fast (faster than with mouse actually). Can't say anything to this one. No more slots, four is fine. More skill-based, less level-based. Camo? Hard to do and would probably require pretty much rebalancing. No airstrikes, don't fit in this game. Helmet? Dunno, nothing wrong with the way it's now. CQC counter would be cool but maybe too late to add. R3 is good with the last one. Some other button would make it too easy if there would be a free button.

This "last post syndrome" might nip you in the butts later on, and it doesn't pertain to just this thread for the both of you.

Also, for some reason you guys let the lag not be an issue, when it certainly could. Yeah, it's a beta and not everything will be perfect, but it's something they will need to focus on come release time, especially that little debacle they had with the servers, which delayed the beta in the first place

As for the lag... it shouldn't be as bad as the beta debacle since Europeans actually have to pay to play the game now.

Dunno man, After I started playing people with levels higher than 3, it got to the point where everyone would either get knife kills or headshots (most of the times sprayed). There were alot of times where I headshot the same guy that headshot me, at the same time. This is why i think a helmet should be in the game via purchase. (maybe 1000 dreblin points)

What "last post syndrome"? who cares? Your warning would also effect you if you reply to the bolded parts in this thread.

1.) No comment.

2.) Not everyone in NA and Japan got into the beta, so they still have to be careful.

Ah, I see. He always wants to get in the last word. No wonder he both called me "paranoid" for not letting have the last word there (which was more me trying to understand some things), but also refuses to admit he did anything wrong. He'll probably try to warp this post as well to what he wants.

As for the game, I'm just glad multiplayer games are taking up open betas, to work some issues that even a closed beta could not indicate. I applaud Konami for putting the game out into the public like that, knowing it could risk the image of the game. I remember how much flack Halo 3 got, based solely on the beta.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

LordTheNightKnight: When choosing the server you want to join you can apply a filter that filters out all games that have a certain undesirable attribute (such as lag).

I think it was the triangle button in MGO, but I might be wrong. It says at the bottom of the screen, anyways. Simply set 'network quality' to 'good or better' to filter out all games with a crappy ping.

So you clear out clutter from the bandwidth? And why would you not have that on all the time?

Because the majority of people that played the Beta probably chose the automatch option, so they were thrown into a random server that happened to be the game mode they chose and there's no option to filter ping for automatching.

The problem was that you were trying to "end" it. I was trying to clear things up through discussion. There is a difference. And twisting my words in the manner you did, rather than actually addressing the points I made, shows you were more interested in getting the last word, than discussion. Therefore, I say you did deliberately insult me.

As for the online, I could see how skipping options like that would create problems. Then again, it would be best to make the more efficient options the default ones.

Wow, nice tangeant. Take that elsewhere, to a webcam or something.

I have a pretty good connection and I didn't have many lag issues. I kept it to 4v4 or 5v5 games though, because the SLOWdown of the game was stupid beyond that.

--I want to SEE the ping of rooms
--Change motherfucking R3 so you don't motherfucking stop firing when it's accidentally pressed during aiming. Prob 20% of my deaths, I couldn't fire back because I aim putting pressure on the R analog. But if I play seriously I'm getting a FragFX anyway for this.
--Stun knife is too much
--Cover system is ASS useless. If they don't want to speed it up the cover process, just remove it
--Headshot box is gargantuan.
--HUGE POINTS for headshots = retarded. I WANT MGO to give me reasons to pick something other than M4 + headshot. But there wasn't one when you could win almost every map as an above-average player nailing HS all day. I don't want to play CoD4 or Counterstrike, I want Metal Gear.
--Incentive to play tranqs. MG is supposed to be about stealth and cunning, not an automatic fragfest.

Basically the barebones game was OK, but I hope the finished game will have many more "Metal Gear" touches, in gameplay and asthetic.

The ping filter doesn't always work out if there's no admin. What if guys that have 150+ pings all filter their games and join rooms with under 50 ping? that would lag the entire server up.
