Waron, in your lifetime predictions you are shorting PS3 pretty majorly. Wii and DS figures are more defensible than the PS3. My 2 cents. ;)

You and I, are of the same opinion. |
I agree with this also, especially the part I bolded, which is why I think (as do many others) that Blizzard makes the best games (even though I am not a fan of WoW). They let other people inovate for the sake of inovation and take the good of what other pepole do, expand on it a little if they feel the need to and only innovate where it is deemed neccesary. The end result is a great game.
"Reviews are supposed to let you know if the game is good or bad, not make you feel better about yourself by validating your purchases"
==> Sulla is the winner and get +1
Time to Work !
^^True reviews are helpful rsources for gamers to use for their game purchases. Also you should not go by one opinion but a collection of them to judge how good a game is.

This isn't gymnastics. In Gymnastics, there are strict requirements for what it takes to get a 10. If there is any flaw detected, it's no a 10. Games are entertainment. Movies get "pefect" 4/4 or 5/5 all the time. Games are somewhere inbetween because a lot o reviewers use a larger scale than just 4 or 5 stars. The games Rocketpig mentioned all did things no other game has ever done. Halo 3: replays and forge; Bioshock: unique storytelling, atmophsphere; GTA IV: most polished open world ever, fixed aiming, great story; SMG: gravity, pointing, polish; etc. Not every reviewer gave those games 10. There are several places that rarely give 10's out that gave it to GTA IV. It means something. That's why it's the highest rated game. A lot of people didn't get 10's to the other games, so the average is lower. If you don't like a lot of 10's despite there being so many revolutionary games, then just read the reviews from sites/magazines that rarely give a 10. It means more from them. OPM doesn't get out a lot of 10's, btw... 10 doesn't mean perfection. All games have flaws. It's just which game has a higher ratio of greatness compared to the flaws that deserve higher scores. Of course, there will always be people that want a gymnastics scale, but there are too many factors to use that and opinions will always differ.

on consoles, yes. Halo has only been impressive because it's a console shooter. You can share replays. That's awesome.
lI want to read it to see what info they reveal about the game but i'll wait for some actual (clear) scans.
Wow, a lot of you guys are overreacting, almost ridiculously so.
First and foremost, 10's aren't given out all that much, at least not from credible review sites (IGN, etc). Hell, GTA IV was the first 10 from IGN in almost 10 years.
The only other two games in the past year to receive ridiculously high scores have been BioShock and Super Mario Galaxy, both great games.
So to put it bluntly, a lot of you are being unfair. Because of the GTAIV situation, it seems no one is willing to accept any more near-perfect game reviews, despite the fact that MGS4 has been in development for four years, and is the ending to one of the more renowned franchises in gaming.
For comparison, and this has been brought up, movie reviews frequently get 5/5 stars.
Does that mean that the movie represented cinema at it's absolute peak?
No, it just means it was a damn good movie.

Ah, the wonders of PC gaming. It's like gaming IN THE FUTURE!
OT though, I would love to see games rated on a 5 star system, with no half stars given. 5 = must-own, 4 = good game, 3 = average typical game, 2 = poor game, 1 = stay the hell away. With a 100 point scale (decimals), the grading becomes extremely arbitrary in my opinion. What exactly is the difference between an 8.7 and an 8.8? Not to mention when you start giving out 10s to games that don't necessarily deserve them, how the hell do you score games that come out later that are better than said game? A 5 star system would fix that problem easily. 5/5 stars would mean a must-own, great game that was a lot of fun to play, with few flaws (or flaws that were easily overlooked). It wouldn't mean that it was a perfect game.
And it's good to see that MGS4 got a 10/10, even if it was OPM. I'm so excited for the game, I wouldn't know what to think if the game got anything less than a 9.
