Forums - Sales - GTAIV Owns Mario Kart Wii

If you really want an interesting comparison, take a look at Guitar Hero vs GTA.

There is a good argument to be made that Guitar Hero has become a bigger franchise than GTA.

Lifetime sales of GHIII could surpass any version of GTA.

GH generates more profit and revenue than GTA through DLC, expansion packs, guitars and accessories.

The Guitar Hero games can cycle every 12-18 months vs 2-3 years for GTA.

put GTA on the wii, the guitar hero argument is no more.

Sales might be more, but the other arguments still exist. GH might still be more profitable overall.

Right now, according to VGChartz, MK Wii has outsold either version of GTA IV separately (of course, data availability has something to do with that).

http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Mario+Kart+Wii+-+Wii&reg2=All&game2=Grand+Theft+Auto+IV+-+PS3&reg3=All&game3=Grand+Theft+Auto+IV+-+X360&weeks=30

But the point is that GTA IV is a super-hyped, hyper-reviewed franchise that had release on two consoles (which make up more than half the market) at the same time.

Mario Kart is third (or even fourth) choice among Mario titles (platform, brawl, and maybe party). And it helped drive more hardware for the Wii worldwide than GTA IV could for Xbox 360 and PS3 combined.

And stock must be short when Best Buy's ad said: 12 Wii wheels minimum at each store in this week's Sunday newspaper ad.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Well I guess GTA is probably one of the most selling not made in Japan games in Japan.

(Not including PC games) I guess Crash Bandicoot is still on the top.

Can I bump it?

interesting, it does sale at a higher price. I think the difference is the fact gh is popular on the ps2. But, i think each are huge franchises and i believe GTA will outlast GH. i dont see people buying a guitar every freaking year.

GTAIV is yet to hit Japan (where it will have strong if not amazing sales),

I laugh at this part,

GTA IV may have a strong launch but Mkwii is going to have strong legs and eventually outsell GTA IV LTD.

 There is no Grand theft auto on the consoles that sold less than any Mario kart;..Would be very strong legs;

Well it's largely irrelevant, since MK still had the second biggest opening for any Wii game. That's still nothing to sneeze at, especially since it became the whipping boy for game reviewers, and GTA IV is the darling.

Both games are hits. Of course that isn't good enough for some, but well, you know what those people can do with themselves.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I'm pretty sure the topic is a joke, but.. to answer one question, yes Nintendo's "strategy" worked just fine. They released it at a decent length away from SSBB in NA to not compete with themselves. As for GTA, why should they care? The audience they aim MK towards will pick it up at some point, regardless of whether it's now, a month, or a year from now. If if anyone thought they looked at the first week of GTA sales and sat in their office and cried, feeling like they were defeated, they're crazy. :p

Let's not forget that GTA is now, at least according to reviewers, the BESTEST GAME EVAR MADE!! *rolls eyes*

Yet Mario Kart is somewhere in the mid-80's (which is still great)

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
