Are you talking about something like Singstar for japanese music? I don't think there's a real audience for that. It would reach into the Culdcept levels of niche product.

You don't know it would sell that poorly. Not a hit, but poorly even for a niche product? You'd need some actual signs this wouldn't work.

And I didn't mean Sinstar, although a version of that would be cool. I mean like Rock Band, or Guitar Hero, even if those are just DLC.

DLC is fine. It's minimal risk. To expect someone like Activision or Guitar Hero to sell a full $100+ package featuring j-pop tunes to happen is just rediculous. It's not that it wouldn't be a good game, it's just not something you can expect a publisher to make any money on over here. Steel Battalion for Xbox sold horribly. I believe Drum Mania and Guitar Freaks sold horribly too.

Do you have any Soundscan/Billboard sales data to confirm these japanese albums sell over in other territories besides Japan?

They are sold here, and they have been for years. If there wasn't some sort of market, they would have stopped selling those albums over here a long time ago. Not saying it's enough to justify a whole game, just pointing out sometimes you don't need numbers.

As for a game, I'd expect more a localization from a Japanese company.

There's a market for everything regarding music in America. We ty to sell music from every nook and cranny on this planet because the USA is a giant melting pot of cultures. That doesn't mean there's a market to create a ground up music game off some highly niche genre of music. I asked for sales because it would be a concern for a publisher to consider if they were to venture down that road. I can easily say there is a market for irish folk music since it's sold in the USA but that doesn't mean I think someone should make a game about it.

will be pretty niche at best. I would love it, but I doubt a lot of people will.

Frankly, I'm sick of music that was made before I was even born. I pray the next guitar hero game will have mod mode. Doubt it very much due to the lovely MPAA, but we can dream, right?

You mean RIAA, but I largely see your point.

Didn't I just write, "Not saying it's enough to justify a whole game"? You just "corrected" me with a point I made myself.

I was commenting on you saying soundscan numbers don't matter, and there's a market just because they continue to sell them. That isn't even justification enough for DLC in Rock Band or another DLC equipped music game. There needs to be a large enough market to even consider japanese tunes, because there's other more lucrative markets they haven't even tapped yet which should logically come first, like say hispanic rock, reggae, etc.

When did I use any variation of "don't matter"? If you read my comment properly, you would see I just meant that soundscan numbers aren't needed to prove there is a market for selling albums, since those albums are being sold.

If proving there is a market for a game, then numbers would be needed, but that was not your question. Your question was solely on album sales. Unless you meant to prove there is a market for games, but then your question was not that clear on that point.

I've already made it clear that I understand there's a market for this music. There's a market for every kind of music in the US. I don't believe there's enough of a market for Singstar, American Idol, Guitar Hero or Rock Band to consider DLC for japanese music at this time because it would not sell enough to bother with development. That is all I'm saying. It is not a lucrative market to tap as there are many less risky genres of music to add to those games that would almost guarantee a profit.

That's so funny LTNK, I was actually watching a version of God knows performed by some amazing people (it was a 3 way split screen with Kurikitan Fox I think :D ), and I thought it would be absolutely amazing to see it show up in rock-band, (you know the drum rift that plays right before the chorus picks up... mmmmmmm ) Same exact song!!!! I think it would be totally badass to have a J-pop pack for Rockband :D I'd love to get my hands on some FLCL, Miyavi, Maxium the hormone :3 I think it would be amazing ^_^

I've already made it clear that I understand there's a market for this music. (1) There's a market for every kind of music in the US. I don't believe there's enough of a market for Singstar, American Idol, Guitar Hero or Rock Band to consider DLC for japanese music at this time because it would not sell enough to bother with development. (2) That is all I'm saying. It is not a lucrative market to tap as there are many less risky genres of music to add to those games that would almost guarantee a profit. (3)

1. Not clear enough for me.

2. How much would it cost just to map a few songs to game mechanics?

3. You ask me for sales figures, but you're presuming there isn't a market, without providing any figures yourself.

You are claiming the risk and viability of the market, therefore you have the burden of proof. So don't ask for those figures if I'm not the one making assumptions.

Stepmania has tons of japanese music add-ons.

I will buy it on a DLC format for SingStar or Rock band... I love the jpop music
