You don't know it would sell that poorly. Not a hit, but poorly even for a niche product? You'd need some actual signs this wouldn't work. And I didn't mean Sinstar, although a version of that would be cool. I mean like Rock Band, or Guitar Hero, even if those are just DLC. | DLC is fine. It's minimal risk. To expect someone like Activision or Guitar Hero to sell a full $100+ package featuring j-pop tunes to happen is just rediculous. It's not that it wouldn't be a good game, it's just not something you can expect a publisher to make any money on over here. Steel Battalion for Xbox sold horribly. I believe Drum Mania and Guitar Freaks sold horribly too. Do you have any Soundscan/Billboard sales data to confirm these japanese albums sell over in other territories besides Japan? |
They are sold here, and they have been for years. If there wasn't some sort of market, they would have stopped selling those albums over here a long time ago. Not saying it's enough to justify a whole game, just pointing out sometimes you don't need numbers. As for a game, I'd expect more a localization from a Japanese company. |
There's a market for everything regarding music in America. We ty to sell music from every nook and cranny on this planet because the USA is a giant melting pot of cultures. That doesn't mean there's a market to create a ground up music game off some highly niche genre of music. I asked for sales because it would be a concern for a publisher to consider if they were to venture down that road. I can easily say there is a market for irish folk music since it's sold in the USA but that doesn't mean I think someone should make a game about it.
