I dont know about anybody else,  i said i agree that its competing. and i bring up it doesn't matter cause people keep saying ps3 is doomed, thats its over. how is it over? there going for the same dollar, but not the same people. for the 100th time the majorty of the people that buy the wii dont care for the games ps3 has and what it has to offer, and ps3 gamers are not interested in wii games, im not. yes! the whole world knows the wii is selling, it doesn't matter to the ps3. the wii and ps3 has no game that each other has, how would they effect each other? games on ps3 people will buy cause thats what there used to, and its only on ps3, games for the wii the casuals and new gamers will try out cause the systems at a mass market price, and the games are different, and its something they never seen before( wii fit)..........go wii!

         There are a few markets that are being forgotten. First off you have the multiple console owners who have all 3 and are looking for the best on each console. Then you have the owners from the previous gen who have yet to upgrade. Another example is the twentysomethings that bought a PS2 last gen but now have kids and wives who want something that everyone can have fun with. We all must admit that while the PS3 has the most hardcore games it is lacking in the main part that made the PS2 sell 100M+ consoles and that is genre selection.  You can call these people casual gamers, but they are more like family gamers. Last generation lots of these types chose PS2, because it had something for everyone. If you think this group is small look at the N64 numbers compared to GC and you will see a large portion moved to PS2. The group that you speak about is in the minority, only about 30 percent of the whole market of last gen. Just for the record, PS3 is far from doomed as people love to predict. All i'm saying is that most PS3 owners are not as close minded to think that the Wii is not a direct threat to their userbase.

So, how did GTA4 had effect on Wii? If we look at the numbers, it only gave a huge boost to it.

 The thing is, that Nintendo can kill the effect of any game, released to competing platform, to its own platforms sales by releasing a game that targets different demographic. That's exactly what they did in Europe with GTA4/Wii Fit releases

 

 What the hell are you talking about , that's like ford releasing a new car everytime a lamborughini came out , your not makin any sense. Wii-Fit didn't have any real effect on the sales of GTA IV and any effect it may have had was neglible.


Atleast you got that right. What do you think Ford is competing with Jaguar and Aston Martin?
So, how did GTA4 effect on Wii sales? According to numbers, it gave Wii a boost.

and in NA Nintendo put itself to direct competition with GTA4/MKWii release. What happens when PS360 gets a big "casual", Wii Fit type of game? Nintendo releases a traditional type of game and again, as much hyped as the game for the competition would be, Nintendo still would show as a big winner, since the big game didn't have any effect to Wiis sales.

Sorry maybe i'm getting confused , but how can you be directly competing with some one if your offering something completley different to the consumer . It's like 50 cent releasing his album to damage britney spear's sales.



 I think you need to look up the definition of competition and then understand what general and direct competition is.





There's a huge overlap between GTA4 and MKWii demographics. I'd say they are in direct competition, as much as different type of games can be.
And again, it's about 50cent releasing a new album so that Britney wouldn't damage 50cent sales.

I'll stick within things I've seen or heard.

1. The Wii is having a positive effect on gaming solely because peopl who never bought one before have been consideirng buying a gaming console. Like my friends mom, my co workers wife, my friend (who quit gaming) and so on.

2. People online seem to love or hate it, why I don't know.

3. People who have something against it, always float back to the point of familiarity, ie games they know others have said are good.

I also have proof, I wanted to buy the PS3 until I learned about the Wii, now I have the Wii I will not now get the PS3

How many threads are there about the assessment of competition of the PS360 vs. Wii competition.

It must frustrate fanboys on both sides. The Wii has the big sales, but many third parties are re-segmenting the game market to decide what should and shouldn't go on the Wii.

Hey how does this sound.

Each console has key niches in the market where they enjoy great strengths where compared to other consoles. In these niches they enjoy great success.

Nintendo has several large niches where the competition just isnt considered viable, they have the simple gamplay type games down to an art, the lifestyle type games such as guitar hero, wii sports etc they have an advantage and they have a great price and a keen following from people who've owned nes-gamecube. These are all niches where the competition LOOKS like it doesn't exist, because its irrelevant.

The PS3 and the Xbox360 compete for a lot of the same niches, the Xbox360 has better offerings for people who want multiplayer, people who don't like motion controls obviously won't buy a Wii. The PS3 has the Blu ray whilst the 360 is better on games currently.

Now there is some overlap but for a lot of Wii purchasers the Wii is the only console to consider. Look at how the Xbox360 dropped the price below the Wii and Wiis sales weren't even changed. People obviously value the Wii more highly than the Xbox360 or the PS3 because even at the same price they still buy the Wii.

If the Wii is $250 but you would pay $300 for it and the PS3 is $400 but you'd only pay $400 for it and the Xbox360 is $250 but you would only pay $250 for it because of how you value the console, then obviously the Wii is the best value for you.

Not completely holeproof but its my take on it. Think economic value - How much you'd pay for a console. Remember those people willing to pay $800 for a Wii? Thats how much they value it!

Edit: I hate saying this, because personally I would love to never see the Wii in the top 50 so I can easier compare the Xbox360 with the PS3! I get bored honestly with seeing Wiisports week after week! Its because the conclusion has been made! I want to see the information where the competition is still up in the air!
