Don't forget there is also a PS3 bundle with the game, so stores need to stock those as well. It might be a little like when GT5:P was released in Europe in March and we got reports about 1M retail preorders. Eventually the game sold over 1M in Europe, but it didn't get close in week 1. All in all I'm pretty sure the game will be a success, but retail orders alone don't always give a complete picture.

For sure, it seems that there should be plenty of stock for the normal edition in Europe anyway. Collector's edition seems pretty limited in comparison though. It would be nice to know how many bundles will be available, but we probably won't know until after launch if at all.

I remember Konami said this game needs to sell 1m day one, I think it's possible for it to do this as it's a worldwide simultaneous release.

I don't really understood that remark about having to sell 1M first day, it doesn't really matter if someone picks up a game on the first day, the first week or the first month.

I guess they feel it's going to be pretty frontloaded. They probably have a rough idea how much it will sale LTD from first day sales, 2x, 3x, 4x etc.

I suppose they don't expect any trackers to releases first day sales either, so they don't put themselves in a position where they have to respond to lower than expected first week/month sales etc. If they do beat it they can put out a press release based on internal data saying how they smashed expectations and sold over 1.x million, if not no-one will ever know what they sold day one.

Well, they could just put out some minumum lifetime sales target instead of a first day target, even if they stay far away from it the first month they could still hit the target in the long run. Cause it makes far more sense to look at the long run and total sales.
