Forums - Gaming - Sequels continuing on different consoles

Is it a good idea for games developers to release a game on one console and then not release the sequel to that game on the same console.

For example, Metal Gear Solid 1 was redone for the Gamecube, with no chance of their being a sequel for the platform.

Now their is Ninja Gaiden 2 on the 360 despite the sigma version appearing on the PS3. Is this a good move by developers to introduce games to a certain audience and deny them the sequel for the same console?

To a lesser extent the same can be said about Banjo Kazooie 3 being on a totally different brand of console altogether, but i get the feeling that many people would have wanted it to stay on a Nintendo platform.

So what do you guys think?

Oh, you mean how Resident Evil 5 isn't going to appear on the Wii despite it getting 4. Yes, it blows, but what are you going to do about it?

Spam the forum with useless petitions seems to be a popular idea. Publishers follow the money. Gamers need to follow the game if they want ot experience it all. Nothing wrong with either of those facts if ya ask me.

It annoys me when I buy a Sony console, and I expect Ace Combat, then it just abandones me, I would feel the same with KH 3 if it went to the wii

I never understood the argument calling for a "collection coherence". A friend of mine bought w GTA4's...one for 360 which he will play a lot and one for ps3 which he will play less but have next to his PS2 GTA collection. Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb...

I don't care what game the console is on personally but thats cause I can afford most that come out... 3DO was an exception :)

I don't think so, so many Japanese developpers are going to be screwed because they took a big bribe from Microsoft to make it an exclusive, and when the sequel hits basically nobody will have played it to know what it is, and it will bomb.

For the specific example you gave, Ninja Gaiden (the new series of it, anyway), began on the original Xbox. Sigma is just a remake.

I'm not sure how much I can agree with your point, though, even though I understand it. I, too, would prefer Banjo Kazooie 3 on Wii, but most of the time people who avidly follow these series' from platform to platform know what system they're going to be on and buy accordingly.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
