Whoa, I just learned you can buy episodes! I didn't know that's what the "writing on the wall" was.

Yeah. It provides some more back story and even some additional missions.

wow this game is addictive, just like advance wars when i had a gba. I just couldn't put it down.

chapter 5 question

what is the best way to do this? i cleared it with a C earlier, determined I could do better but got a C again. I saved it now, just curious as to what other people do that got them a better rank.

Well, being a SRPG, I've gotten pretty hardcore with this game. Especially as soon as I realiased that the better you finish the missions, the more EXP and Ducats you get, and the differences are huge afterwards between even a B and a A. I don't even need to grind. I only do the skirmishes once, and usually I only have to use nearly the same tactics and strategies as in the story missions. Levels are not really important either, tactics change everything though. I put down everyone of my tactics, so I have precise descriptions of everything I've done, and can consistently get the highest scores with killing the aces.

Mission of chapter 5, I got these :

Rank A, 3 turns, by deploying in the upper section, from left to right, 1 Engineer, 1 Scout and 1 Shocktrooper. Scout and Shocktrooper are buddies, for better efficiency. Actually, Engineer is buddy of the Scout too. I got 18280 EXP and 25360 Ducats, killing an Ace in the process. I only sneak with those three. Of course, I use my badge characters in every missions possible to have maximum CPs.

The order of action is pretty logical. Basically, the Engineer goes first and remove the mines, then bomb the mortar guy. The others follow and kill the leader and mortar, take the base, then the Scout kills the ennemy at next turn, and goes as far as the other one. Shocktrooper kills the other one and progress, Engineer follows and heal or bomb the next hidden leader. Then Scout goes just behind the camp entry but doesn't enter, making the Ace come. Last turn, grenade the Ace with Scout, then go to the crates. Shocktrooper finish the Ace, then go to the crate. Engineer go to the crate and grenade them. Then they coordinate to go straight to the flag, killing Scout Leader, and grenading the Shocktrooper, plus using combo attacks between Scout and Shocktrooper. I've detailed it more but it's basically that.

Mission of chapter 6 :

Rank A, 3 turns, by deploying 2 shocktroopers who are buddies in the upper side, and a Scout just below them. An Engineer in the base just in case, and on the right two spots, I put 1 Lancer and 1 Sniper. I got 21650 EXP and 31490 Ducats.

Basically, I dash forward with both Shocktroopers, eliminating Shocktroopers and Lancers in the way, and especially in the trenches which are my destinations, drawing fires from the Scouts. Then the Sniper is free to kill two Leaders that he can see. Then the Scout follows the two Shocktroopers. Then he goes alone in the other trenches nearby, and sneak past the tanks by the right side, hiding behind the walls, where an Sniper Ace is hiding, that I just have to grenade. Then I make a turn around the tanks rears and go back to the base, where the sole Leader can't see me coming from behind, and finish him by grenade and firepower. I use my two shocktroopers to go kill the last Leader not far from the left tank.

Mission 8a. This one was the easiest, I got the A rank the first time, killing the Ace. I had an Ace weapon on Welkin though, more powerful, but I didn't even do it in purpose, I thought he would never use it, but in the end it was a wise move. The trick is to mostly use Alicia first and twice, then use Welkin, and always take the shortcuts with Alicia. Welkin can follow even not taking the shortcuts.

Finished in 4 turns, 31080 EXP and 50660 Ducats.

The Ace is easy, Alicia has 2 turns to take him out, and go to the shortcut. The trick is to heal Alicia, twice.

You sir, rock.  I should consider going this in depth, this game is getting me really addicted, I should take notes!

So PS3Fanboy reviewed it and gave it a 9/10 ^^

Valkyria Chronicles is a must-play title that is in danger of being looked over thanks to the ridiculous number of excellent games being released this year.

Jesus chapter 13 is hard to ace! Took me 2 hours to get it down right. I can't say I didn't saw this plot developing (13-14) unlike chapter 11's. But its still pretty awesome xD.

I thought it was difficult, especially towards the end when there was like 5 shocktroopers defending the base. The tanks, I had no problems with. Maybe I was underleveled or something? What level were you at that battle?

I don't remember precisely but I believe I was mainly lvl 6

I did not encountering 5 shock together ever i this mission, perhaps they were re-inforcement? the only big bunch I encounter was at the flag position which had 3 trooper and a scout.

My A grad was done with 2 shock trooper, a lancer (lancer didn't do much actually) and a scount. Alicia was mainly used to grenade the enemy out of crounch position while Rosie did the hard work. I ignored the tank btw.

My hardest mission by far was 7 (I could NOT A grade that mission) and 8a (not hard per say but hard to perfect), I kept getting a B no matter how hard I try in 8a, I don't know what I am doing wrong :(.

Also @mtofu I urge you to keep going and complete the game! You can begin again with all your save data once you finish and try to ace everything (I will be doing this myself) The second play through apparently has the benefit of having all the book mission being replayable too.

Yeah, they were reinforcements, and they had the base well protected.  Man, I need more time to play this game.

I thought mission 7 was pretty easy, as I made it to A grade on the first try.
There's not a lot of way to finish it, and I'm in the process of detailing a perfect strategy for it, turn by turn.
The trick is to not be scared by Selvaria. Most people are scared, so they waste time getting themselves destroyed by her. I put my heavy firepower spread near the temple, and never touched them while Selvaria was there watching.
If you move while she's watching, you're dead. But if you don't move, she just ignores all of your men to go save his master.
I had only an Engineer and a Lancer to do most of the job of destroying the turrets and the radiators.
These are the two units Edelweiss had to protect.
The second Lancer joined for the last batch of destruction.

This game's story has gotten to the point of being so good now that I simply don't have the will to continue to attempt to make perfect grade anymore, I'll do it on my second run through, right now all I want to do is find out what happens NEXT. Arrgh stupid work.

The story in this game is fantastic. This game has blown away all of the titles I was super hyped for like Resistance 2, and LittleBigPlanet. I will play more tonight.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

I never tried to get a good grade, i don't like to rush. I was getting A,B, mostly with 2 C. I'm on the last chapter. It's getting quite epic. Leveling up to level 11, is really important, it made shock troopers quite useful. Scout is the key to getting an A.
