I have seen this coming. Edit following shortly.

EDIT: I have responded to this question in the "Why the Wii won't sell 80+ million" thread.

Basically Nintendo doesn't milk their franchises to death like most companies. That's why we don't have 30 Mario platformers. Great games take time to make and the development teams that did the Mario platformers also made a lot of other great games as well.

They don't do that, but they slap the mario name on every franchise idea they come up with (tennis, karting, golf, strikers and on and on). At least Super Smash doesn't have the word mario in it.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Not really. If you check the reviews, they're mixed.

Like I said, for ever three Mario spin off games, we could have had at least one new Mario platformer.

Eh excuse but what's Paper Mario then? Mario is not really a platform game anymore but an adventure game as I rather wish to call it. Paper Mario is also more of an adventure game with RPG elements, like you can compare it a bit with Dark Chronicle for the PS2 for instance, Dark Cloud 2 for the American friends.

I totally agree with Benkenobi88, I'd rather see 2 real good games, completely finished and to be a classical and fun game, instead of 5 games which are dashed off. These days games take more time and production to create comparing in the time of the NES. The more technological advanced the longer it takes to develop, really makes sense doesn't it?

This profile is no longer in use, see my other profile *~Onna76~*

I'd much rather play a 2D Super Mario World 3 than a new 3D Mario adventure game

DAMN!@@! where can i get a copy of super mario world 3!?!?!? lol

If Nintendo made some Gameboy Advance Mario platformers, you might be able to find a Super Mario World 3. I know that Nintendo put more work into their Mario platformers, but not enough for reason to limit them to only 10 Mario platformers. Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, a game that was made much faster than Super Mario Sunshine, got higher reviews than Super Mario Sunshine. It was the only 3D platformer of last genration to recieve higher reviews than Super Mario Sunshine, but almost all of the other Ratchet, Jak, and Sly games, got reviews just barely behind Super Mario Sunshine. And Sega didn't always rush their Sonic games. The Sega Genesis had four Sonic games, that rivaled Super Mario World, and their graphics are even better. Okay, the Mario platformers were always a little bit better than its competitors, but not enough to limit the Mario platformers to only 10, since the rushed competition often rivaled the Mario games.

True, all of the Mario platformers are amongst the best games in the world. In fact, many say that Mario is the best franchise of all time. It is definitely the best selling. Anyways, this still doesn't explain why we have no new Mario platforming games for the Gameboy Color, or Gameboy Advance. We should have three for the Gameboy Color, and three for the Gameboy Advance, because there are three for the NES. The Mario platformers for the Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance would have been 2D, so it wouldn't have taken that long to develop them.

Nintendo doesn't crank out Mario games (or Zelda games) because they want every game to be distinct and have unique gameplay mechanics. Whether or not you think Mario's "water gun" was a good addition to Super Mario Sunshine or not it added something unique to the series. Hypothetically speaking, Nintendo could crank out carbon copy clones of Mario games every year but the series would soon become stale.

I don't think the Playstation Portable even compete with the Nintendo DS.

Oh no, you've quoted my post with a spelling mistake; "Compete" was not supposed to have the letter "s" at the end. I cannot edit that quoted post to perfect it. My reign of spelling perfection has been forever ruined!
