A holiday on par with Saint Patricks day, in that whatever original meaning it had has been diluted into ''an excuse to drink." (that and vague mexican associations).

What is cinco de mayo,never heard of it?
as blaydcor said, its mostly a drinking holiday in the USA like st Patricks day. Not quite sure of how it is celebrated in Mexico. I take it its mostly just a celebration of mexican culture at this point. At one of my old jobs I worked with this mexican guy and he was so incredibly festive on cinco de mayo, it was amazing.

It's not celebrated a lot here in my region, and it commemorates the battle of Puebla, where Mexico's army effectively pwned France's army back in XIX century. Or something like that.

I think its funny that the whole USA celebrates this and not all of mexico. haha. You should celebrate, for the sake of having an excuse to celebrate something and have fun.
