Sales tend to change on occasion holidays,AAA games,so it'll be sooner than 7 months because the PS3 is going to sell 17 mil by 1/1/09 based on the average weekly sales rate of 150,000.

X360 launch: 22 November 2005. Easy = 1 December as it wasn't WW.

Halo 3 launch: 25th 2007 September easy = 1 October

Months: 22

Ps3 launch: November 21st Easy = 1 December 2006

Current date: Easy = 1st may

Months = 18 months

Ps3 reached this number 4 months before X360 did.

If that was what you meant, I can do another comparison, if you like. Well, here goes.

Current Ps3 numbers in others: 5.2M
Number of weeks out: 75ish

X360 used about 110 weeks to accomplish that number

Wii used about 50 weeks to accomplish that number

Please note; Ps3 has had 2 holidays during this time. So has X360, so the 35 weeks are lower sales weeks, and do therefore not have as big an impact. The Wii had only had 1 holiday season, and was about 7-8 weeks later at 1M more.

Current Ps3 number in America: 4.8M
Total weeks out: About 90

X360 total weeks: 60weeks roughly.

Wii total weeks: about 40 weeks

Please note: Both Ps3 and X360 had finished their 2nd holiday, and the 30 days do therefore not have a that big impact. Wii has only had 1.


Total Ps3 Japan: 2M
Weeks out: about 85

360 weeks: At current rate about 1000
Wii weeks: about 18 weeks.

Please note: Wii had 1 holiday, Ps3 had 2.

a comparison that makes absolutely 0 sense.

do keep in mind that launching a console early has both the advantages of people buying it, and the disadvantage of people waiting to see the concurrence.

The only real comparison you can make this gen regarding sales speed are wii/PS3 as they launched at sensibly similar dates. That is unless your comparison shows a large difference... 4months is only 20% faster and considering what I said, I don't consider it large.

The thread title should read "PS3 reaches 12 million hardware milestone five months before the 360".
