Forza 2 is quite possibly the most in-depth racing game. It's basically Gran Turismo on crack cocaine. Some of the thus-far features of Forza 2 that I've discovered: 300+ Cars (and very few are the same make of car, but different model) 100+ Upgrades per car (not including aesthetics, paint ect) 25+ Licensed real-world tracks + unique Forza 2 tracks 200+ Races for career mode. Very similar to Gran Turismo's length Your typical races; point to point, laps, hotlaps (I think), endurance races, duel races, team races (I think), ect. The cool thing with the game is it has a level progression system. Whenever you win or place in a race, you get credits to spend on upgrades. This cash total adds upto experiences points. Each level unlocks new cars, free cars, new tracks/races, and also discounts on various types of parts. Also, you have car level progression as well; when you use a specific car for enough races (and win them), the maker(s) of the car(s) give you bonuses for using their car, including discounts on other cars, ect. This is just what I've done thus far in the game. You also have great online modes for racing, a virtual auctionhouse to buy cars that have been made/customized by other racers (go check out the picures, they are incredible), and they're working on virtual clubs for the cars. Overall, if you like simulation racing, you NEED this game. Until Gran Turismo 5 comes out, there is no sim-racer like this, and GT5 will have ALOT to prove to me that it's as good as FM2 when it launches in a year or two.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
I also purchased Forza 2, and the one thing I really like is how the career mode starts. You have to choose a home continent (NA, Europe, Or Japan), and that affects the cars that are available to you at the start of the game.

I find Forza 2 about as boring as every other racing sim. That btw isn't an insult, I just hate the genre, but what I find amazing about Forza 2 that I've never seen any other game get even close to is the paint job option. It basically has no end to the paint jobs that can be acheived, in fact you can simply paint cars for a living and sell them online, and buy more cars and continue. Check out this awesome clip what some people are doing in Japan:

Yeah the paint job feature is impressive. I have a friend that is a great artist. I''m gonna have to tell him to get a copy.

Wow!.. 2 things
1 - I love the fact that one car had a person holding a Wiimote and nunchuck painted on it's roof
2 - I thought my car was cool because I took 5 minutes to splat some paint on the side.. lol, after work I'm going back and really check out all the options, those cars just looked amazing!

I'm already 28% through career mode. I can't stop playing this game. Incredible. It puts GT to shame. Hopefully Polyphony will step it up for GT5 and not rely only on shiny new graphics.
