Forums - Gaming - Wii-Fanboy Review of Grand Theft Auto IV

So does this mean I'll actually FINISH a GTA game?
I'll pick up my copy in the mail on Wednesday.
I expect most of the problems I've had with the series in the past will not have been changed, but
as long as the story pulls me in, I should be good.

I disagree with your opinion on story, GTAVC had a much better story and main character.

Nice review. I really liked your assessment of a few other great titles at the end to see where YOU personally stand, as one man on the internet. You can't just go around dropping numbers if we don't know what they mean for you.

As usual, your numbers check out. Good work.

(I also like how kingofwale hopped into this thread to talk shit only 4 minutes after you posted it. Methinks he didn't even have time to read the whole thing, unless he's refreshing every 5 seconds and is a speedreader.)

Why were you banned for a week?

You can read about it on my wall. It was for my last post in this topic:

@ssj12

We'll just agree to disagree, then. I've spent a decent amount of time on the review, so I'm gonna stand by it, but only as an opinion piece, and anything that seems like it might be condecending or trying to state an opinion as a fact, I assure you was not meant to be the case. This review was written to give people who had the same opinion of the previous GTA games as myself(hated them) a real and unbiased review of GTAIV, without the hype, that's why I played the game to begin with.

I feel a lot of reviewers gave this game a perfect score, because they gave the previous games 9.5's and such, yet this game is far and away better than the previous games, so they thought giving this game a 9.5 as well would be hypocritical. It came down to poor planning.

I would have a tough time giving San Andreas over a 7.5, just to give stark contrast to my 9.5 review of GTAIV.

What I felt was missing from VC's story, which I alluded to in my review, was the comic relief, or sense of consistant comic timing and beyond that emotional involvment in the story. I also felt VC was trying a little to hard too be Scarface.

That said, Ray Liotta is still a fantastic actor and brought a great character to Vice City, no doubt. I just feel that the overall pacing and script of the storyline, as well as the much worse(imo) directing, left the story of VC and San Andreas flat, and unremakable, which was only compounded by tediously difficulty gameplay which threw the pacing off even more.

IMO, GTAIV fixed a lot of that.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

lol, he admits he didn't read it in his first post. It was his mistake, honestly, I think he just thought this topic was something entirely different from what it turned out to be.

I care little.

Zen: thanks for that link, it was a great read. No one chose me for Sony fanboy. Good to know.

Btw, I forgot to mention my relief about the swing back to positive threads about GTA IV...a stone against the growing stream of negativity.

Great read, your opinions seem to mirror my own quite often

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Great read, this further cements my future purchase of this game

@kingofwale, that is foolish. We know Zen, you do too. His review is detailed and complete. Why post in here if you didn't read it? Just to talk shit about Zen? Leave that nonsense at the door.

@sc94597, again we're aware of who Zen is. His potential bias was clearly stated by announcing himself as a Wii-fanboy. His potential fanboyism didn't stop him from enjoying this game. In fact he spent $60 on it didn't he. What moron would spend $60 on a game to talk shit about it? Not Zen.

You did a great job, and coming from Zen people should be happy he likes the game and rated it so high. If you've just come in here to take the piss out of Zen because he is a self-proclaimed fanboy, please read his review because it doesn't suck. His words are that of a gamer, not the fanboy he calls himself. His final message is not unreasonable. He's telling you his situation and saying, "I'm a fanboy. I gave peace a chance, it did wonders for me and I think it would do the same for you."

On a side note, maybe they should start giving out random 1-week bans. It's seemed to give Zen some valuable insight.

Wait Isn't that what I said? I was telling Kingofwale why he said he was a wii fanboy, and why the other reviews were there.
