Paid to get bundle exclusivity? It's a win-win deal for both companies, certainly Sony could be buying the GTA4s for the bundles at a higher price than what it's sold alone. But it's doubtful they made any kind of "pay-off" for this. I'm sure if MS could have/ wanted to, they would have done it. I don't know how these companies manage their finances, maybe MS considered they had put enough money in *R hands already, maybe they thought it was not a good deal for them considering they already cut 360's price in EU. No matter how you look at it, the software company providing the game for the bundle is always the big winner, 'cause they already made their money even if the bundles don't sell!

Exactly.  And I'll point out that when the MGS4 bundle was announced, it was said that Sony must have done it as a favor/contractual obligation to Konomi/Kojima, but now people seem to think that Sony had to pay Rockstar to be able to bundle the game.  So it goes both ways against Sony, apparently.

But it's not likely that Sony is paying Rockstar.  Sony bundled MGS4 to move PS3s, and Konami would be happy for the extra exposure and possible extra sales.  Same with GTAIV.  The publisher/developer must still be paid for the one copy of the game bundled with each console, and if Sony is giving some kind of savings with the bundle, Sony eats that money in return for moving the console, instead of getting a full $10 or whatever they'd normally get from a 3rd party PS3 sale.  But Sony wouldn't have to pay add'l to have the right to bundle.

I was in a couple of electronics stores today for a sound system and its pretty amazing. GTA4 was actually always sold out. (Germany) Similar for the GTA4-PS3 bundles. You could see the hole next to the other PS3 editions in every store. I am really curious about the sales.

Looks like the sales numbers will match whatever number of limited edition GTAIV bundles they released.

The same will apply to MGSIV. That particular bundle is a great deal for anyone who was holding off on the purchase of a PS3 until MGSIV was released. Patience pays.

In the UK, there have been masses of PS3 only ads in the papers. Interestingly, in many cases the only way that you can get a copy of GTA is to buy the PS3 bundle

@munkeh111

M$ got the TV....SONY got our Newspapers..

looks like its working for SONY though

Chips MD: GTA IV Driving Greater PS3 Sales

Don McCabe, managing director of UK games retailer Chips, says a “phenomenal” Grand Theft Auto IV launch period has seen the Xbox 360 version leading unit sales, but the game driving greater PS3 adoption across the company’s 31 stores

”Demand from day one has been phenomenal,” McCabe told Next-Gen Friday, echoing statements made by retailers Play.com and Game earlier this week. “It’s the biggest selling title on any format that we’ve ever had. We virtually sold out on day one.”

McCabe said that the Xbox 360 version had begun as the strongest seller, but that the PS3 version was closing the gap and driving more hardware sales.

“Initially the 360 version was the biggest seller for us but in the last couple of days the PS3 version has been picking up. I think as people have got to see it on friends’ consoles and start talking about it the vibe has been growing, and I think anyone that’s got a PS3 is now making the decision to come and buy a copy. Over the last day or so the PS3 version has picked up quite substantially [although] it’s still slightly behind the 360 version.

“The game’s certainly a hardware driver,” he added. “Some people appear to have been waiting for a killer app on PS3 and see GTA IV as that app, so we’re certainly noticing that the game’s more of a hardware shifter for PS3.”

Chips has so far taken one GTA IV restock that was supposed to satisfy consumer demand over the busy weekend shopping period. Unfortunately, however, some customers will be unable to obtain a copy, a situation that’s bound to be reflected at many stores nationwide over the bank holiday.

“We’ve had one restock to date form Take-Two and [distributor] Gem but copies have been flying out of the door. The batch that we just got was for the weekend but it’s not going to last that long. There are odd units dotted around the system but we’re now taking pre-orders for the next delivery. We’re hoping to get another restock early next week.”

So has he felt let down by Chips’ allocation?

“It’s always nice to have a title that sells out, but on the other hand you never like to have a disappointed customer standing in front of you. We feel that we’ve had a good allocation from our supplier. The logistics of dealing with such a massive seller are very, very problematic and I think they’ve done an exceptional job in getting the stock to the market and trying to treat all retailers fairly.”

On Wednesday ChartTrack revealed that GTA IV had broken UK opening day sales records after shifting 609,000 copies in its first 24 hours of availability. According to the sales monitor’s estimates, the Xbox 360 version sold 335,000 copies on Tuesday, compared to 274,000 PS3 copies.

WOW,,nice , another Store says more PS3 hardware sales,,,mmm,,,,PS3 is about twice expensive as 360 there?If it is true (that 360 sells less with being half the price),then i don't think 360 could ever outsell ps3 again in UK.

Why they make limited bundles... ?

who the hell is chips? never heard of them.

@DOATS

I don't live in uk but they have 31 stores in UK apearently,,,,maybe some of our UK members could let us know?
