Uh the most recent game that has been released multiplat in US is DMC4 and the user base was 1.66:1 you might want to consider that. also are you saying you believe microsoft here? they are saying their business partners told them its selling better? I stoped reading after the first line because of all the bullshit in it. |
I am taking MS at their word, yes... But I'd imagine they're being "optimistic". They have better data than we do, for sure... But I don't think their going to dig themselves into a whole by blatantly lying.
And you are right about DMC4... That is probably even more of a PlayStation targeted product than the GTA franchise. It is also uniquely popular in Japan compared to other games.
CoD4 as an FPS is likely to appeal more to 360 users... Madden 08 was better on the 360 and sold better. Assassin's Creed tracked pretty much identical to the console install bases (with possibly a slight PS3 advantage).
My only point is that all things *SHOULD* be equal... When the numbers stray from the console ratio, you have to start asking "why?"...
We've all discussed those "why" questions.
- Episodic Content?
- Started franchise out on PlayStation brand
- Xbox Live advantages
- PSN is free
- Reviews opinions on minute graphics differences
- Haven't bought a console yet and will pick a new one NOW based on this game mixed with console feature/value associations
There's no doubt it would have been 100% better for Sony if GTAIV remained fully exclusive (or timed exclusive). But we all know that Rockstar and Take 2 decided a long time ago not to take 18.5 million potential customers off the table.
This is clearly an opportunity being taken by Microsoft to get "good press" because they know that on the surface, people 2:1 sales and don't take into account install bases. If I were Microsoft, I'd point this out too! But I wouldn't be very happy about those numbers behind close doors... "What about our $50 million?!?? ;)
