Forums - Website Topics - User scores, what is happening?

When the games database was redone, the ability to rate a game was removed, and has not since been put in. Will this ever come back? Because at the moment in one of the side menus, there is a list of the top rated games, which will become more meaningless as new games come out that are not on there. Of course there was a lot of complaints about fanobys rating down other systems games, but if we cannot change the score, surely they should be removed from the system rather than just being left there as they were

i dont know......it was a good idea that fanboys ruined.........

Yeah, I honestly think they whole thing should be scrapped, or redone so that your vote only counts if you have above 500-1000 posts.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

It shouldn't come back.  I don't know why they kept the top rated games list on the front page after they removed the ratings system.

If you think that it shouldn't come back, shouldn't all the scores be removed from the games?

It should be changed to the top ranked games according to metacritic or another site like it. At least it would be more accurate.

It was a decent idea, but the fanboys on this site ruined it. Should stay dead and ioi should partner with gamerankings or something

There's no reason to have it, for every one voter who actually thinks about what he/she is doing there seem to be 5 users and/or guests who want it to be shaite and vote like complete assbags.
There's no need to ruin our fine database with shameful scores on good games because some people retain a mental age of 5 throughout their entire teens (or very well their entire sad lives).

You should only be allowed to vote on games listed in your "Games I Own" list. The score should appear in your games list beside the game. People should be able to sort your games list by your score. Average scores for all users should not be calculated.

You guys should realize that ioi is still working on the game database. It took quite a while before we could add screen shots, dates, and box arts from when ioi first switched it over. Give him some time.

Anyways, there is no good solution for preventing fanboys from ruining a game score. The only realistic solution is to make it so you have to be registered to vote with say 25 posts, and that you can only vote once.

Owning a game doesn't work because You don't need to prove you own it.

Limiting posts to +500 sucks, because for a lot of people 500 posts is about 1 year on this site. A low post count works because It forces people to post ~25 posts (1 month for a slow poster) before they can vote, which makes it accessible. Also, if someone just tries to spam 25 posts, they will be banned promptly, and it could be implemented where an admin can reset any votes he made.

It wouldn't be perfect, but it removes the ability to quickly spam biased scores.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
