Forums - Sales - 360 price cut in US?

Microsoft could really gain some unstoppable momentum in the US by reducing the pirce following what is likely to be a huge month anyway following GTAIV. I expect to see a meaningful price cut in late May / early June.

The PS3 just cant seem to build any sizeable sales gap over there and Microsoft has used this to their advantage and kept the price higher for as long as they could... but I think they will take advantage soon tand really clean up.

The 360 is going to be huge in the states by the end of '08. I dont think there is any doubt about that now.

I couln't disagree more with you.

First, the fact that the PS3 cost more and is outselling the 360 EVERYWHERE, including NA the last few weeks goes to show the 360 has no momentum. And a price cut would not make it "unstoppable", as mentioned in other posts MS can barely make money on in their entertainment divsion, a $100 price cut (America dollar is already becoming worthless) would screw them over, and also as others said, Sony sure as hell isn't going to sit by and give a "Atta boy!" to MS. Sony has much more room to cut costs of the PS3 than the 360.

Simply put, if the 360 get's a $100 pricecut, Sony will follow, maybe with a WORLDWIDE pricecut, which would really screw MS over. There is no way for the 360 to build up "unstoppable" momentum anywhere.

They have to pick a good time, it's a $100 drop it would likely be their last for another 2 years or so.

microsoft is in dire staits at the moment compared to the ps3. but anyway MS or Sony should not really care about a price cut at the mo because both consoles are selling well.

I think MS will cut the price a week or 2 before mgs4 comes out. They're dirty like that.

i say price cut in beginning of Q3

MS really doesn't need a US price cut. The system is selling far better than at this point last year and software sales are solid, not of course that you'd know this after reading all the crap posted in this thread.

Sorry but if M$ cut their price in Na we will see a $299 PS3 and it could be over for 360 then....right now 360 barely manages to outsell PS3..

If you believe NPD over VGChartz (and sorry, but I do), the PS3 has outsold the 360 in 2008 in the US.

By a long shot.

Right... So resistance 2 will be bigger the gears 2. That makes a whole lot of sense.

How in the hell does MS's profitability influence consumers' decisions?  Exactly, it doesn't.

People need to stop assuming that just because [if] Microsoft cuts prices then Sony will immediately follow.  Remember that their games division barely turned a profit last quarter too, and I bet 10 bucks to a nickel that what little they made wasn't from PS3 hardware.  Combine that with the weak dollar and they would be bleeding money in the NA market.

With that said, I think they propbably will cut prices this year, but it will not be until the holidays to try to make a massive hardware push, but it will only be a modest 50$.  I also doubt MS will cut off a full 100$ because that would eliminate their profits as well, and that is their bih talking point to investors and the board of trustees at this point.  Expect a 50$ cut, probably near the end of Q3.

E3 is when they'll drop it or something like that if they do....
