Forums - Sony - A little too many delays, don't ya think?

Slimebeast said:
Well delays suck, but your're lucky you've got Lair.

That would be funny if it was...........funny.

Anyway the delays are getting annoying, but as long as Tekken 6, Resistance 2, Haze and MGS4 don't get delayed, I'll be happy with this year's line-up.

I do not blame the original poster for his naivety after all he has probably never worked a true job in his life. Unfortunately you do not have to be young to lose sight of the fact that it is almost always harder then it looks. The reality is that Sony has increased the pressure on developers. That means it is Sony's fault and Sony's problem. Sony are the ones that need to step up and to front the resources not the developers.

I hate to see posters rag on the developers when it isn't their fault. Many of them have done a superb job in spite of Sony's incompetence, arrogance, and ignorance. Sony did a piss poor job of getting the developers what they needed, and more importantly making it profitable for developers. Instead most developers had to spend precious man hours retraining employees in another new technology, had to work from scratch on their own game engines, and then after they ate this horrendous cost. Sony had terribly misjudged the marketplace. So the developer is looking at eating a huge loss.

When it comes to delays your problem is really a problem with Sony doing a poor job. Not the developers especially the ones that did not cut and run on you. You should be damned grateful that the likes of Konami and Square haven't left the console high and dry or changed colors entirely given how the console has performed, and more importantly how upset they have been with the way Sony has done things. With all these problems they stood by you, and for that you have nothing to complain about from them.

The problem isn't with the developers. The problem is with Sony. The developers need more help and Sony is not coming through.

@ dodece: Could you please give me some links to examples? I'm not doubting your word here, especially since what you say meshes with a lot of the rumors I've been hearing, but I'd like to have a look-see at the primary sources.

And as for the original topic: Yes, the PS3 has seen a lot of delays, but as some of the other posters have already said, it's better to delay a product and get it right than to have another episode like we just experienced with Bully on the 360. More importantly, I think we can see from Nintendo's history that even when you're perfectly familiar with the hardware, and have a large team, your game might still be delayed because something still isn't quite right, and you want it to be better. Be patient. You'll be playing your games soon enough.

I remember waiting in agony for an entire year after the initila release date for Twilight Princess for the game to come out. :(

thirdly: we still got UT3 about a year before 360 so doesn't matter.

Since when does less than five months equal "about a year"?

hmmm, funny you never mentioned GTAIV... a game that clearly benefited greatly from a delay.

Lots of games, across all platforms have been delayed.

Not just the PlayStation 3.

QFT.  Most of the games I've wanted across all the platforms have been delayed.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Honestly I do not compile links. I also do not go out and compile for others. Your search engines works just as well as mine. So if your really interested set aside two hours, and root out the articles for yourself. The reward just isn't worth the waste of time. Especially since you would probably be the only one to pay attention. Needless to say the complaints from the development community are legion as are the efforts Sony has gone through to rectify their screw ups. You can probably compile a hundred articles if you put your nose to the grindstone.

@DMeisterJ

True but Sony is known for the delays of its major titles. The ones they have heavily promoted to current and potential customers. When something is in the spotlight when it vanishes everyone takes notices. When something is in the shadow at the edge of consciousness slips away nobody notices. Especially if the game in the shadow was for multiple platforms, and wasn't relevant in the least except for those that were really focused on it.

For example Gran Tourismo 5 being pushed back into 2009 is something that almost every single poster on these forums recognizes. Almost nobody noticed that Borderlands a title for three platforms did the same, and less then ten percent of posters are probably aware of that. Which is shocking, because that game looks very promising.

@ Dodece

Well GT5 was never dated anyways. Internet users like to give their own dates to when games come out to suit their needs.
