Forums - Sony Discussion - KillZone 2 "officially" delayed to 2009

Sony really needs to start taking these delays seriously. They sold consumers on the promise of future potential. They then sold consumers last year on this years game lineup. They need to start thinking about what jaded consumers are going to do and say. That is a recipe for disaster. Changing your mind about lineups after you have sold consumers on them is not acceptable. Over promising for short term gain is not going to win you friends.

This game being delayed into next year would be very bad. Earlier this year most honest posters would have said Sony had the lineup to beat. Sony could very easily go from first to worst. The delays are going to start taking their toll on the platform especially if gamers become even more jaded about the consoles prospects. Worse yet the delays of multiple platform titles are not doing Sony any favors with their smaller library.

A lot of posters flaunt the dictum that a bad game is bad forever and a delayed game is eventually good. However a delayed lineup no matter how good the games are is equally bad. Consistency of delivery matters to consumers. Hell it has always mattered. Nobody likes famines, and nobody likes to pay more for a console to get the lesser lineup experience.

I sincerely hope this source is wrong for the PS3 owners on these forums. Were the delays good for the console last year? They most certainly were not, and they are no better this year. The console already has a bad moniker in the Delaystation. The console does not need the stigma amplified by having another large title slip beyond the proverbial horizon. Too many owners have already spent a year chasing the sunset.

pardon my ignorance, but where on the site does it say that?

edit: nevermind, found it, took a while to come up.

Scott stienberg of sony said that KZ2 was coming out this year. I believe him more than a random poster at neogaf.

This can't be right. This guy who works at a grocery store near me said it's coming october of this year.

Get with it people. They are delaying for a reason and it will be to do with timing. You can't possibly promote all the big games at once without killing hype for the other. To have Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 release at the same time would be a PR blunder and Sony know this. By keeping a steady gap between big releases you keep people interested. Look at M$, the only game people are looking forward to this year on the 360 is GOW2, nothing before or after it. By leaving a steady gap between releases, MGS4 , LBP, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2 and so on you keep a higher interest throughout the gaming industry. It's not all about that the product not being finished, it's about getting the biggest financial recoup from the game.

I called this back in early 2007, along with the obvious 2009 FF XIII release, as well as GT5.

ok guys according to official PS site ,,the KZ2 will come in 2008:

"MORE EXCLUSIVE GAMES

PLAYSTATION®3 has an incredible line up of EXCLUSIVE games in 2008. With the ultra-realistic and jaw dropping GT5 Prologue just released, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is only around the corner and must be seen to be believed. Later on in the year, you can expect to see the amazing Killzone 2, the highly imaginative Little Big Planet, MotorStorm 2, and Resistance 2. Or play sofa vs sofa anyone in the world with Buzz Quiz TV. Of course, all these games can be played online without another cent to spend.

I think offcial PS site knows more than a guy on neogaf

Do you really think that these things get around quickly? PR departments can be slow and use outdated information all the time - accuracy isn't the point of their job. Anyways this is what happens when you give an studio with little in the way of experience or talent a blank check. If this game is to ever be finished Sony needs to step in with some management and force the studio to make a few compromises instead of allowing endless feature creep.

Damn it. I wanted Kill Zone 2 more than any other game this year.

Nintendo's (and the Wii's) 3 biggest games of the year are releasing March, April, and May.  That is 3 months, back to back.  Considering the biggest PS3 of the year is already out and MSG4 comes out this summer, Sony could release several back games over the fall and winter if it wanted.
