And of course, anyone who thinks a gym is necessary for physical fitness is naive as well.

No, I'm pretty sure there were stupid people before WiiFit.
I'd be curious to know how often those customers used the fitness centre. There are a lot of people with gym memberships who never get around to going in.
I can see somebody getting better results from using Wii Fit two hours a week than going to a gym for two hours a month.

If someone doesn't have the discipline to continue a gym exercise routine, what makes you think they'll do so with WiiFit when they could be playing other games instead?
Ironically, I hoping WiiFit can get my workout routine consistant enough it's worthwhile to join a gym again. I wonder if this bad press will actually help WiiFit sales.
Just wait till that 9% see the other 91% at the weekend and tell them why...

Ok, ok, well yea fine your right, exherting your body in ways that traditional exercises would wont work to build continuity regardless of the reward incentive from playing a video game.
People love to do things that are fun, exercising at a gym isn't until you get friends at the gym, if Wiifit had online multiplayer I would probably do back flips.
I read this autobiography of a guy who used it for 3 months to lose his weight, his goal was to lose it before his marriage. (He married some hawt asian woman.)
I'm not getting it though... maybe another time, I'm too hardcore for that piece of plastic.
I'm Unamerica and you can too.
The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:
Interesting, Nintendo has said that WiiFit is meant to help you become more aware of your body and it is not a replacement for other types of exercise.
I can see how it would hurt attendence in areobics classes... not much else.

There is far more to physical fitness than merely losing weight. You can stop eating for a week and certainly lose weight that way (though it may have a few minor negative side effects). It's a mixture of activity and diet.
To me it's like those cereal commercials that always end with "as part of a balanced breakfast" which ends up being highly misleading as many cereals can actually be quite bad for you since by themselves they are not a balanced breakfast. Losing weight with WiiFit could probably be done. Losing weight without WiiFit could also probably be done just as easily.
