Forums - Sales - 360 shipments will fall 40 % in the year ending in March 2009

Could someone explain me what year, in M$ case, ends march? It's Bloomberg, so i'd expect them to know what they write. Or is it just a prediction for next 12 months?

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

An American fiscal year is from April 1st and runs until 31st March. So the current fiscal year started on April 1st 2008 and will end March 31st 2009. Most other countries use financial years between July 1 and June 30.

The US Government's fiscal year runs from October 1st to September 30th, though it used to run between July 1 and June 30.  Generally the fiscal year is entirely up to the company.

 ???

Odd, because Microsofts fiscal year is from 1st July to 30th June, wheras Nintendo and Sony use April 1st through March 31st.

Apple, another American company, uses October 1st through September 30th.

The fiscal year is (as linkzmax said) up to the company, though globally (not American) most companies will use the method that Nintendo does, which is that fiscal year 2008 ends on March 31st 2008, and FY '09 ends March 31st 2009 etc etc.
Sony is a little awkward in that they are 1 year out of sync  (they have just finished FY 07 and are in FY 08)  but they do use the usual dates.

Year ending march 09... not 10 Starcraft!

So he is meaning this year... Not in fiscal terms! lol

Ah I see.  But it says March 09?

Thats rather dubious?  Why make a fiscal year prediction that isn't based on Microsoft's fiscal year, which will end in June 09?

And a 40% drop on the previous fiscal year's sales would mean the 360 yould ship around 6 million consoles?

What the hell is going on with some of these analysts?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

The prediction is looking at 12-month periods and two of the three console makers use an April-March reporting year. It makes the most sense in this industry because of the standard gaming cycle.

What is interesting is according to these predictions, Wii > PS3 + X360
(24 > 14+9.1 or 23.1)

That's roughly a 51% market share.
