The good news for Grand Theft Auto fans is that whatever platform you have chosen as your own, GTA IV excels on both. They are almost evenly matched, feature for feature. Gamers will have to decide which is more important to them, a slightly more technically sound experience on the PlayStation 3 or downloadable content and Xbox Live integration on the Xbox 360.

Let me rewrite that for him:

I figure if he is going to throw in announced undelivered features, I would too ;)

Odd that he didn't mention that it's for a fee too.

Er.....he mentioned motion control in the review?

Edit:  He could also have pointed out that anyone that buys the offical PS3 bundle won't be playing with rumble.  But hey, who's nitpicking?

Yea. but he didn't put it as an advantage, because he didn't want to use it. Not a good thing in my opinion. As for the bundle, it only comes with one controller, so most people will buy another one anyway.

This is also the first time I have seen stated that the 360 does not even have a HD install option. That kind of sucks.

On the upside, the DLC should have less issues, as it's on the HD and not the disk.

So the scorecard:

PS3 wins in:
-SIXAXIS support.
-Loading

360 wins in:
-Frame-rate
-Aliasing/paint filter
-No install
-Rumble
-Achievements.

Note that neither future DLC or future online capabilities are recorded as advantages as all are speculative.

no install is not a good thing, they both have rumble, achievements will be coming to the PS3 in the same way that the 360 will be getting DLC, and he said they both run equally framerate wise and in the FINAL version of the game the aliasing was the same.

also IGN said the PS3 version wins in the aliasing category, and i'm more likely to trust them, as is everyone else i'm sure.

so everything you mentioned=moot

obviously the pop-in was a big enough of a problem for the 360 version to make the PS3 be a "technically sound experience"

well, For those people, why not just pick up a DS3 instead? heck, you will be wasting that on a Gold Membership in order to play online for 360 anyway. ;)

Fix'd.

He could have also mentioned how XBOX Live shut down this Christmas, because of all the people playing, while the PlayStation Network did not.

Er, there is only an official PS3 bundle in Europe.........

Exactly.

So people who are buying the game, by itself, in America, will be fine, so long as they buy a DualShock.

As for the DLC element of the decision making, it occurred to me that come the end of the year won't a lot of people moved on to other games? i.e. Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, COD5, and so on? I know GTA IV is big, but there's going to be a lot of other big hitters landing on the shelves come November time, will people be that bothered about DLC (other than hardcore GTA fans?).

Also, has anyone figured out yet why we've had no solid details on what the DLC is? Seems a bit strange that R* or MS haven't detailed exactly what might be heading our way - it's the lack of information on the DLC that made me fear "Horse armour" and made me refuse to favour the 360 version based purely on future content I know nothing about.

Everything here is speculative.  But picture this. It is Christmas and you want to know what console to get your kid.  HE loves GTA and wants the game, and he just found out that the 360 (which happens to be cheaper) has some awesome just-released DLC that makes the game longer and more interesting.  What do you do?

The timing of the DLC is very strategic.  It is set to come just before Christmas and then again during the slow period next year.  You must understand that Microsoft has risked $50 million on this.  It will not be small.  Furthermore, Rockstar have said they wouldn't want people to feel like they have been duped, whilst Microsoft representatives have told us to think about the DLC as we would San Andreas or Vice City.

Added in some additional considerations

I am largely platform agnostic. I fail to understand why some people get overly fanboyish about what is an inanimate piece of electronics that's obsolete even before it's launched, when there are far more important things to champion, such as preventing environmental destruction or preventing millions of people dying unnecessarily from illnesses. This fact however, doesn’t mean I am not someone who doesn’t enjoy gaming as a pastime (as I have done for the last 20 years) or doesn’t have a strong interest in how the market is evolving – hence my presence on this site.

Platforms owned – PC, DS, X-Box 360, PS3, PSP and Wii.

didnt ign say that the ps3 has smoother framerate?

-No install some might consider the install, which decreases pop in an advanatage.

-Achievements.

Yeah, I'm going to have to back this up. You're really reaching Starcraft. In fact most accounts swing the frame rate in the PS3's favor slightly.

Meant to put pop-in under the PS3.  Rumble is universal on the PS3, whereas it isn't available in the PS3 bundle.

Actually here in PAL regions, the DS3 will cost around $US90.
