Forums - Sales - Will Wii sell a record number of units this week?

I think we may finally see demand being reached, and my prediction will come true !!!!

Yes, because that's how demand works. One week, at 300k, then demand will be reached and no one will want to buy another Wii ever again. Right. Take an economics class, if you can. You need it.

I don't really think Nintendo is trying to steal the thunder, because that's not really possible at this point. All they are trying to do is make sure they still outsell the competition this month. I also think they're trying to meet demand, so I think we'll start seeing more units sold each week (200k+), instead of the 250k one week, 50k the next week.

This week is going to be big, there's no doubt about it. I think the Wii has a chance to hit a personal best in NA and WW during a non-holiday week. The PS3 and 360 will do nicely as well, without a doubt. It's going to be an interesting week. Of course, we have to wait about another week and a half to find out.

WEll first of all if anyone thinks that its just coincidence that MK Wii and Wii Fit are releasing in America and Europe/Other exactly on the same week as GTA IV releases, then you are insane. Of course its their to combat those releases. I mean duh. It's a strategic move. Put your biggest guns up against the competition's biggest gun. I don't even think Nintendo is looking to outsell Wii Fit, just make sure that while PS360 gets something big, so does the Wii. Thus no brand appeal is taken or shifted.

Will it be a huge week for Wii? Of course. MK Wii will bring more Wii sales in America and Wii Fit plus MK Wii in Europe/Other will bring a lot more Wii sales in. It's going to be a huge week for Wii. Going to be a huge week for 360 and PS3, but Wii is not slouching during GTA IV week. More or less its gaining.

Wii's also in Sunday Circulars showing Wii's in stock tomorrow at K-Mart & Sears. So we can assume Wii's in stock at everyplace that sells Wii's.

Isn't it also Golden Week in Japan? If it is, it will be a major week in all territories.

Keep in mind that Sunday will be in next week's data, not this week's.

Wii's top week so far was 1,474,433 units right before Christmas last year. That's definitely not going to happen.

For non-holiday weeks, it's possible we might see a new record. Wii's top week so far is 458k, from the week of 21 March 2008. That will be something to keep an eye on, although it would require something like 250k America/200k Europe/50k Japan to pull it off. Interesting side point: aside from holidays and the PS3 European launch, neither the 360 nor PS3 have ever topped 250k weekly. So we may see a new record for one of them too!

And yes, of course Nintendo is trying to compete with Grand Theft Auto by releasing its games the same week. This whole "they're not actually competing with one another" is pure nonsense. Fortunately, the gaming market is large enough that all of these big games will be able to draw healthy sales, and turn big profits.

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

Well the only online retailer in stock at this moment is Walmart, and it's not a Wii, but a $600 bundle. Everyone is sold out.
