Which Team Are You On?

Team "Nega is more tolerable." 1 33.33%

Team "Optima is more tolerable". 2 66.67%

Total:3

For example, suppose you have two online gamers (let's call them Nega and Optima) leave a comment on the following topic: "Super Mario 64 Remake Revealed For Nintendo Switch 2."

- Nega: "Oh look at this! More unoriginality from modern gaming. I miss when Nintendo would make new games. I hope this game flops harder than Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, another unoriginal flop from modern Nintendo. They've really lost their way."
- Optima: "Wow! This is objectively the best game Nintendo could have possibly revealed!! This is no joke probably going to be bigger than GTA VI, and yet people whine and complain, 'Oh, look how LAZY Nintendo has gotten!!' Meanwhile what does PlayStation have? That one Mario rip-off? LOL!"

Which do you tolerate more: Nega or Optima?

I think it should go without saying that my preference is always to look at things from a glass half-full perspective, so while I don't love Gamer B's comment here, I would prefer it to something unnecessarily negative that simply just dampers the mood. Feeling a slight sense of "Okay alright buddy lol if you say so." is much preferred to having my mood/excitement dampened.

I hate both equally. So much so that I can't in good conscience vote lol

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

i hate both of them, but toxic positivity takes the cake. shit is unbearable.

Total Championships: Nintendo - 4, Sony - 2, Atari - 1, Microsoft - 0, Sega - 0

Why do we have so many winning takes so early in threads these days. It's like the userbase is pretty mature or something.

Anyway, to elaborate: Too much negativity is obnoxious, not necessarily because of the negativity itself, but because it's often unwarranted in the extent it's presented. Too much positivity on the other hands makes it more difficult to present contrasting opinions, because then you feel like you're ruining the party if you say something negative. Too much positivity can also be unwarranted, something I know at least one person on this site to be guilty of constantly.

Am I that one person, by chance? Lol! I know I can be a bit defensive when people are too negative, and I know I was definitely guilty of being annoyingly positive during the start of Switch 2. It helps that I've kinda just learned to live and let be: if people wanna be miserable/overhyped, then let them be. No point in fighting to change their mind.

Out of those two quotes, the first one is partially correct, though. NES had two brand new Zeldas, SNES had one new Zelda, N64 had two new Zeldas... and none of them launched remakes of Zelda. And on top of that, they weren't just new, they were revolutionary. As in, changed the entire industry revolutionary. So in that context, negative man up there is actually correct man.

But I get your point. Even if it's true, if you still like whatever they are making, then it's just a bummer. It's just pissing on your parade. And I can get behind that. I mean, I've realized that about myself. That even if AI is horrific, do I really need to keep stating it in every thread? And so I'm making a note to just shut up about it as much as I can.

But the internet loves negativity. That's just its nature, and there is little that can be done about it. Even within fan sites, people just love arguing and fighting and being mean. It's sad.

No. As far as I can see, you've been a great addition to the site! It's been great having you here.

I guess I should have better explained that positive attitude in general is not an issue, it's when it's drowning everything else, or perhaps when you're really positive (defensive) about something when it's not really deserved.

Both of these guys suck. That said, I think the “positive” guy is worse, at least in this context. He’s much more divorced from reality; he takes a cheap shot at the competition; and, most wickedly of all, he misuses the word objectively ;)
