If we rule out one-offs, low budget shovelware slop, and all that stuff, and just count major series that have been around for years and had many entries, which do you think is the worst in gaming, and why?

There are popular series that are mid that keep going so almost but not every AAA franchise. Actual worst? Like complete trash. Probably have to search smaller scale like the Tohou games. Neptunia games are trash. Then again anything Compile Heart is. Series is dead now but at one point it felt like Army Men games from 3D0 would never stop. They were terrible. There are also games just harmful like CoD. A lot of bullshit US propaganda and racism. The games as games are whatever, frozen burritos. Not amazing but get the job done. Real issue is the messaging.

Sonic the Hedgehog I guess? I mean Sega had a great a pretty great start with it. but most of this franchise run has been filled with mediocre to just ok games. and it's seem both fans and critics agree.
I don’t know if a lot of people bring this franchise up a lot, but I believe the Frogger franchise is a worthy mention. Like type in Frogger on Metacritic and see what I mean.
The big sports series have to be among the biggest offenders. They have stopped evolving a long ago, and how can they really evolve, to be fair? Football is football, soccer is soccer and so on. In fact, I've seen reviews where people say things tend to evolve backwards in these games, with missing features or stupid design choices. They charge big bucks and people are just basically paying for updated names on the rosters at this point.
