For those who play a lot on old games/systems, what era of games do you come back to the most, and why?

Not sure if I classify as a “retro gamer” but… IDK. This is actually kinda a hard question. If we’re talking about revisiting the actual original system? I’d have to say GCN, it’s too much of a blurry mess to play N64 on an OLED 4K display. If we’re allowing emulation? N64. Those games have a certain distinct charm to them… I don’t know what it is but nothing quite hits like booting up Mario 64 or Banjo Kazooie for me.

You can include emulation or stuff like NSO or modern retro collections if you like.
5th and 6th gens primarily. Eras I grew up on.

Yeah I get that, I grew up in the 90s so that's a time period I revisit often, either via breaking out my old SNES or playing modern remasters/collections of games I missed back then.
Atm, if you can call it "retro" I've been spending most of my non-current-gen game time on my PS3 and 360 checking out games I missed; just picked up Alpha Protocol, Left 4 Dead, and Far Cry 2.
It changes from time to time. I'd say 3rd and 7th generation the most. It's mostly NES or Nintendo DS. I don't have huge backlog, but there are few games I'd really like (again) to get into as soon as I have the time for it, such as the Mana series, Faxanadu, some obscure Japanese SNES games, BotW, Xenoblade Chronicles X (although, I have it on Switch as well), Assassin's Creed III among few others.
Ei Kiinasti.
Eikä Japanisti.
Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.
Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.
8/16-bit and PC games of early 90's, that's where I started.
Though for last decade I've mostly played early 00's.

Anything 1990-2005 ish. So 16-Bit era up through PS2/DC/Xbox/GC era
