Forums - Gaming - the differences according to ign. ps3 and 360 versions of gta4

The PS3 is better technically by, as they admit, a very slight margin. This doesn't seem to me to be such a big deal that it should sway one's console choice, unless you already have both.

The only thing that could decisively sway it to the 360s favor is the DLC, but since - for some reason I can't fathom- no one will say what the DLC IS, consumers will have to make a relatively uninformed choice.

IMO, this is a huge slap in the face of Sony - here is why:

Finally, a game that has technically pushed both machines to the limit. No limits on dev money either - they spent what was needed getting the engine for both games cranked up to maximum.

The PS3 is supposed to be technically leap-years ahead of the 360. Well - according to GTA4, it isn't.

In fact, the machines are so close - that there is basically no difference.

(the "pop-in" difference is almost certain to be because the PS3 GTA runs from a hard disk, whereas the 360 version runs from disc - hence a big difference in seek times, which heavily effects any sort of streaming. I have to wonder how the PS3 version would run without a hard disk install...).

...

If there was any doubt for me, I'm definitely getting a 360 (rather than a PS3) now - GTA4 is one game that could have swayed me the other way. And its not on account for any extra content - its on account of the game library. The 360 has a vastly superior library, and I expect this to continue until the generation is over.

(for me anyway, Banjo Kazooie >>> MGS + GT easily)

I agree with you, one thing you didn't mention is that you CAN do an install on a 360. Since this doesn't work on all 360's reviewers won't mention it, but I'd like to read about the difference.

I really feel bad for people that have to choose between 360 and PS3 now. I still have some time, my system seller is RE5, but at this moment I wouldn't have a clue. I'm leaning towards 360, but there's always Final Fantasy that stops me from making that decision.

@ sailordude

Content is king, and the Xbox 360 version will have more content.

We don't even know that, there will be PSN DLC content, Home specific content and who knows maybe an expansion pack.

In my country we state: The customer is King and quality over quantity. The consumer will have to decide if they want to sacrifice quality of the game and possibly the hardware (usually a long term investment) to buy future unknown content. Currently with regard to the episodes consumers cannot make an eductated decision as there are no previews or reviews available. They can however judge the quality of the game and hardware (with regard to feature set, Rockstar already hinted DVD will not be enough for GTA V and a default harddrive is important to them).

It's not like GTA IV is a small or incomplete game neither (the game got perfect scores!), on the PS3 the game includes extensive free online multi-player enhancing lastability.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

il be buying this for the ps3, its obviously the superior version.

psn will also have dl content, just not the ones 360 has exclusive rights to, but i feel even better will be the upcoming home intergration. some people are moaning as usual regarding this being a multiplatform game and that ps3 is supposed to be light years ahead blah blah blah. well what if this game was made only on ps3 utilising the bluray? they had to make a game that will fit on a dvd, so i feel in a way this is a lesser of a game that it possibly could have been because its multiplatform. bluray>dvd

so my sum up will be for the ps3 version:

  • better grafix
  • better load times
  • better controller for gta
  • will have dl content soon
  • gta4 mini games work well with sixaxis motion support, ie bowling
  • home integration
  • free online play

SOLD!

Lol.  In another thread at this very moment, a bunch of PS3 fanboys are trying to convince me that Take Two was about to go under until Microsoft gave them $50 million.

Do you have any idea how much leverage Microsoft would have had to get GREAT DLC if that is remotely close to the truth?

Anybody who thinks Take Two was about to go under is delusional. Anyone who thinks a company that size is "saved" by $50 million is triply delusional.

Also, I've seen some of the patently ridiculous things you have to say around these parts; you are fanboy through and through yourself. With that in mind, it would probably be wise to curb your eagerness to sling the "fanboy" accusation at your fellow posters.

You do realize that it was the fanboys I was referring to that said TT was going under, and credited the $50million as having saved them?

And after that hilarious display that you put on about how easy it was to find information in a split second on google, I don't think you should ever try to come after me again

And yes, you know what I'm talking about.

I'll take it that means you never did figure out how to type "IBM Cell 45nm" or "Toshiba RSX 45nm" into your Google window and click through a handful of links then. And don't forget the whole thing arose from you plugging your ears and entering denial over a comment on a hardware roadmap because you felt your precious game console threatened, then refusing to drop it unless I prepared a report for you and held your hand and walked you through tech articles.

Like I said, fanboy through and through. If the shoe fits...

What I really want to know is, has any other review mentioned those pop-in issues? It may well turn out that those issues are negligible...

so my sum up will be for the ps3 version:

  • better grafix Graphics are the same, only more framedrops on 360 (I agree that that's an issue, but it doesn't chance the graphics)
  • better load times Probably, but we don't know the difference if it's installed on 360
  • better controller for gta I'm not even going to react to such nonesense
  • will have dl content soon It is obvious that 360 DLC will be much and much bigger. Microsoft could have made 2 good games out of the money they paid R*, 360 DLC will be very significant.
  • gta4 mini games work well with sixaxis motion support, ie bowling What happened to mini-games suck/motion control is a fad?
  • home integration Do you have Home? XBL achievements are already there, not somewhere in the future
  • free online play Good thing

SOLD!

Since I own neither, I think I can say I'm unbiased towards either, and as you can see I don't agree with most of what you say.
I think if you're a big fan of GTA and you have both consoles you have to decide what's more important. Framerate or extra content. As someone who doesn't care too much about graphics I'd take the extra content any time. (since both versions get great reviews I figure the framerate issues aren't too severe.

No, it's from statements released by both IBM and Toshiba. Even someone with exceptionally weak Google-fu can verify that. Thanks for the attempt to put words in my mouth, but, unfortunately you're completely wrong both on the information and on the source.

Very well. Provide your links...........

I'm not going to go scour the web and collate data for you to prove the obvious, I have better things to do with my time; unless you would like to pay me first. Look around and read up on it yourself; I'm sure you can use Google as well as anybody else.

Ok, based on your own words you're either completely inept when it comes to "Google-fu" or you've just contradicted yourself.

Thats pretty much the moment you got pawned last time.  By both myself an sqrl.  Do you really want to play again?
