Anyway, I agree. I'm sure the story is solid but I'm growing weary of adult reviewers fawning over pubescent bullshit in games.

Aaaaand I agree again. It's like some twit on E News talking about how amazing the writing in Lost is.

It's really hard to take a review seriously when they first complement how the story is amazing and Oscar worthy, and then comment how it's great that you can unload rockets freely into crowds.

I suspect the latter is true, at the expense of the former.

Even putting my dislike for GTA aside, this looks like a textbook-worthy example of halo effect. Kinda like when Donkey Kong Country was released, and my favorite magazine gave it full points for absolutely everything, just because they were so impressed by some parts of it.

GTA4 look like a well-polished masterpiece with no obvious faults, but this score has to mean that they're seeing everything about the game in the best possible light, simply by virtue of being a part of it.

Don't worry, you make perfect sense. When people get caught up with a game, and do not pull themselves out of the hype in order to give an unbiased opinion about it...biased ratings occur. Doesn't mean what they wrote is 100% false...it just means that the feelings behind some of the words and the rating will fade immediately after the review is posted. And the realization that the game prolly did not deserve a perfect 10 in every category, but deserves a 9.8 or a 9.7 at the least, will prolly be felt by the reviewers....but it will be tooo late.

Well some sites do alter their scores down the road.

This question is which (if any) of the sites to admit that "we were wrong."
