Forums - Sales - May 2026 VGChartz Estimates Thread

Strong month for the Switch 2 thanks to a huge May in Japan. Sales there will be a lot slower there going forward and will take a hit elsewhere in September but overall it'll continue doing well the next few months though 2027 could be an issue for it if it gets another price increase that year. PS5 was below 400k but the Xbox Series price increase will help it a bit starting in August though it's probably gonna get another big price increase the first half of next year so this year is likely the last time its sales won't be outright bad. And for the Xbox Series it was up month on month and held up decently YoY for a change but it's gonna be basically completely dead after July but at least that month will be relatively ok for it.

Overall video game console sales are entering a really bad place and things are probably gonna be dire for it next year with the exception of Nintendo and even then the Switch 2 might not even sell that well that year. It seems possible that total console sales could be below 20m next year but if not then for sure below 25m which is really not ideal. Also the Switch 1 is about to take a big hit from sales collapsing in Japan meaning most of its remaining life just got cut short so it'll be truly dead next year.
