‘Wii Fit’ flexes its muscles at the top of the All Formats chart this week, giving Nintendo a very healthy complexion thanks to the 6th fastest selling UK debut ever (only bettered by GTA, Halo and Gran Turismo titles).

The fitness game was launched on Friday, bundled with a balance board accessory at a price of £69.99 and was bought by roughly 1 in 10 Wii console owners over its first 2 days of release. ‘Wii Fit’ recorded an estimated £16.3m making it the 3rd largest launch in terms of value for a video gaming product, behind ‘Gran Theft Auto: San Andreas’ (£24.2m in week 44 2004) and ‘Halo 3’ (£16.9m in week 39 2007).

Chart track news:

1 in 10 sales could mean close to 280k sales in the UK alone in the first two days!!!

UK (biggest European market):
7 out of top 10 = Wii, 4 of those = 3rd party
9 out of top 10 = Nintendo platform

From Nintendo's recent financial release we saw UK Wii install base was around 2.5m. Around 1/10 Wii owners bought it = ~250k.

Wii Fit UK numbers maths + validation :
- roughly 1 Wii Fit in 10 Wii, 2.500.000 Wii in UK => roughly 250.000 Wii Fit sold
- "estimated £16.3m", "price of £69.99" => 16.300.000 / 69.99 roughly equals 232.000 Wii Fit sold

So an opening of roughly 235.000 must be close to the truth.
