Forums - Gaming - Let’s Talk About Hype Culture in Gaming (Nintendo Directs, Sony State of Plays, Summer Games Fest, etc.)

I say that people should stop complaining about not enough future games and focus on their massive backlog. I’ve learned that by no longer fixating on upcoming releases, and instead simply playing the games that I already own, I don’t feel any urgency to have X, Y, and Z revealed. I’m perfectly contempt with Splatoon Raiders, FE:Fortune’s Weave, Bubsy 4D, and Rhythm Heaven all being in my peripheral as I focus on games I’ve always wanted to play e.g. KirbyATFL, DKBananza, MP4Beyond, SMBros2 USA, etc.

New things are naturally more exciting than old ones and hit differently; even if I have leftovers in my fridge from 3 nights ago, sometimes I just feel like dining out or ordering something fresh.

If new games stopped altogether and I had to spend the rest of my life just playing games that already existed, that would honestly be pretty miserable for me, cos there's just no beating that feeling of something all new and novel.

Maybe take it one step further and not worry about how content other people are just spend that time playing games.

I don't mind online hype culture at all. Gotta take marketing where your customers are.

If you see somebody making fun of another in a disparaging or abusive manner, ideally you’d wanna see somebody step in and put a stop to this unwanted behavior. Analogously, when I see somebody being so openly and plainly toxic in forum discussions, I step in. Not for the sake myself, but for the sake of others— toxicity is contagious. Why be so openly negative? You accomplish nothing other than to hinder other’s excitement. And I do this not just with Nintendo, but truly the entire games industry. I’m fighting on the frontlines whenever Sony, Microsoft, or whoever else does a presentation that receives gets slapped around by a buncha whiney enthusiasts. You ruin the environment for everyone else, and are responsible for harming the industry as a whole— just look at how such fans have affected the climate surrounding properties such as Star Wars.

That all being said: I mean no hostility to ya, Mr. Wolf. I would appreciate if any further comments of this confrontation and/or conviction were taken to PM. Personal disputes and all the like are not meant for the public arena.

Though I must add, I have kinda been working on what you suggest here, Mr. Wolf, in that I’ve been working on exercising “Live and let be”/“Opinions are like bumholes: Everyone’s got one, and they’re all full of waste.” I feel like I’ve been making good progress! I remember literally needing to take a break from the site back in Feb because I was just getting so worked up so frequently. But recently I haven’t been posting much outside of casual gaming comments.

I really dont consider this a personal dispute. Sorry if it came off that way. But happy to drop it if youd prefer.
