This is more or less the other thread but a bit different.
OG Xbox did a lot for the brand and led to Xbox 360 while Xbox One nearly killed the brand (namely the reveal and even as late as 2016).
Xbox One brought in more revenue and surely profit.
Xbox and Xbox 360 were more successful to the brand than the later Xbox consoles.

It's similar, but I still thought it might be worth doing as the Xbox One sold about 2.5 times the OG Xbox and brought way more money; the OG Xbox actually ate huge losses similar to PS3 due to the hardware being costly to make.

Digital distribution has helped Xbox massively. Xbox is one of the few if only hardware brands to (as far as we know) never make a profit on hardware itself. Nintendo very often profits from hardware, and I think even PlayStation has years into their consoles.

Xbox One in short-term history is more successful than the original Xbox. Especially after it got its price cuts. But not in the long-run, given its damage to the brand.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Xbox Live money helps too, which they weren't getting for most of the OG Xbox generation, but raked in all gen long on Xbone.

The Xbox One was probably also not losing quite as much money on hardware as the OG Xbox, which apparently got screwed by a bad deal with Nvidia, hence Microsoft moving on to the 360 as soon as they could. With Xbone by contrast they could take their time and ride out the same 7 year cycle as Sony cos they weren't bleeding cash.
