I'm surprised it took them this long. AI for content generation without formal verification is one area where I think it is indeed lazy slop. Fully support this. 

Using AI generation for ANYTHING is lazy slop. It's even worse than when Disney started using CGI props in their 2D movies. At least the latter added to the overall atmosphere of certain scenes, like the Cave of Wonders in Aladdin. AI generated content adds nothing but cringe.

Nah, theorem provers that use Lean or Rocq and physically-constrained systems like Alpha Proteo aren't slop. It's because they have ground-truth verifiers and aren't just generating willy-nilly without verification. They also will help a lot of people. 

They don't help artists, animators or writers, they're putting them out of work. -_-

Okay, but Alpha Proteo helps humanity as a whole by expediting the curing of diseases. Theorem provers help humanity as a whole by expediting research that depends on fundamental mathematics. There is more to the world than producing and consuming digital media. 

All this means really is that the Sora 2 app was an extremely inefficient use of resources. With Claude getting a lot more popular lately it makes sense that OpenAI wants to focus harder on the much more important stuff. Local video generation models are still improving a lot and that won't be stopping but state of the art video generation is probably gonna get less accessible in general soon. If someone wants that they'll need to pay more for it.

And/or pick up a fucking pencil, something these AI slobs have never even tried in their lives.

You just glossed over that artists, animators and writers are getting fucked over. Producing and consuming digital media is how many people today earn a living, and generative AI is depriving them of that living, especially artists who already have been struggling to make ends meet.

They can't do anything to the USA as far as hitting the USA, so in that they can't win.  But they can certainly do a lot of harm financially, and the USA is too stubborn to raise taxes on the rich to pay for their wars further putting them in debt.  Much like Afghanistan, if you put boots on the ground for a decade, you may change things temporarily but someone new will come into power that will end up being worse.
