7th gen also had PSP and DS. Surpassing 500 million total. My pick for greatest era is not a generation. But 1990-2005. Greatest in variety. Creativity. Innovation. Growth.

Ahh you are one day too late— I literally just got all my setting fixed yesterday. Went from Skylanders Trap Team capping at 30FPS 1080p to 244FPS 4K… three issues I discovered: (i) HDMI was plugged into motherboard, not GPU. (ii) I needed to reinstall my graphics drivers. (Vulkan was crashing everytime I used it.) (iii) As a result of Vulkan not working, I would only every use OpenGL, which for reference was only using 10MB of my 32GB RAM lol.

The fact that I was even hitting 1440p 60FPS on Wii games is truly astonishing with all that was screwed up.

Fact!. Dolphin truly is a well optimized emu.

Y’know, you got me thinking… 3DS released 4y and a few months after PS3, and everyone is comfortable calling it 8th gen. Meanwhile Switch 1 released 3y and a few months after PS4, and there’s a big controversy. Being that NS1 spent 5y competing against PS5/XBSXS and just under 4y against PS4/XBO, I feel like it’s make the most sense to talk about NS1 from the perspective of gen nine, when talking commercially.

Interesting but apples to oranges. Switch is a hybrid and launched around the time PS4 Pro and Xbox One X launched (closer to PS4 Pro but the same year as Xbox One X)
And yeah, DS and PSP weren't included in your figure by default.
I don't ever see any generation coming close to the combined hardware sales of DS+PSP+Xbox 360+Wii+PS3. That market doesn't exist anymore.



Lifetime Sales Predictions 

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)
