Forums - Sony - Sony is shutting down Bluepoint Games

Tagged games:

this is f***ing stupid.
Just let them do single player games ,or make remakes/ports of games, they seem great at that.

All these "games as a service" push.... just rubs me the wrong way.
I HATE IT.

The GAAS was cancelled, and I guess they couldn't get on the same page for a full new game. But surely there was a remake project they could have taken up lol. Bloodborne for example.

Shame.

How it wasn't decided to have Bluepoint go from the cancelled live service God of War game to heading development on the God of War remake trilogy will forever be one of the biggest fumbles!

Like, it was right there!

There, 2 projects they could have been working on, instead of forcing them to do GaaS bullcrap.

Killzone or Legend of Dragoon, would both have been nice too.
Alot of sony fans would have enjoyed seeing dormant IPs make a return in the form of remakes.

Been out of touch with gaming news the last couple years so I had no idea there was new PS leadership. These new guys need to go. Yoshida really put Playstation on the road to greatness and they fucked it up.

At this point I agree.
I really dislike the direction of things.
16 GaaS type games in developement.... and for what? Long droughts without good single player games?
Most of these GaaS getting cancelled/shutdown.

Its such a waste of everyones time.
Its not like games take forever to make these days either right? Who cares if you actually release games? .....

Sony needs to get its ass dragged in the lowest bottom again like PS3 early days where they are forced to appease the fanbase again instead of the stupid chase of GAAS to appease the never satisfied shareholders. Every clueless clown that is currently running the show can get purged and new people with actual brain and understanding of what made playstation successful in the first place can build it back from the start.

Glad I made the move to PC gaming and cancelled my PS subscription and traded in all my PS5 games for extra cash. These morons still pushing us their GAAS trash despite repeated hatred from the fanbase from concord to marathon to the newest slop horizon fortnite too edition.

The GAAS obsession is a cancer on gaming, driven by greedy idiotic suits who just like the idea of spending just one game's worth of budget in exchange for endless access to people's wallets via predatory monetisation.

I said this in the comments of the article but this sucks for the BP employees but it's probably good news for the gaming companies based in Austin who can scoop up the talent.

Lol, lmao.

Expect Media Molecule, Bend, and Fairgames studio to shut down soon. And pray Saros is a 5 million+ success otherwise their fate may be sealed as well.

I'm actually shocked that Media Molecule is still around. They haven't made any commercially successful game since LittleBigPlanet 2 in 2011. Could they also be working on a live service game after Dreams?! 😱

I wouldn't go that far yet.

Bluepoint getting shut down fits in with other closures like London, Japan Studio, or PixelOpus. They had nothing to show, or had made very little progress, despite many years of work.

Sony gained so much goodwill from that last State of Play... Only to completely piss it all away one week later.

What a stupid decision. One that will have disastrous consequences on not just their own development plans, but also a lot of those developers who depended on those jobs to provide for their families. I sincerely hope they all can land on their feet and find comparable or even better positions elsewhere.

This floored me man, WTF.

I don't even blame Sony for Bluepoint deciding to work on a live service God of War game. They had nothing going on from 2021 to 2023 other than supporting SMS with GoWR. Their live service pitch wasn't greenlit until 2023 before ultimately getting cancelled in 2025. Sony should've known better to even greenlight such a project.

Its unfortunate to see Sony fumble Bluepoint when they clearly had value as the premiere remake studio.
