Forums - Sony - Horizon Hunters Gathering, a live service Horizon spinoff, announced for PS5 and PC

I thought it looked good. What makes something live service versus coop like Monster Hunter?

How it's monetised, microtransactions, seasonal content and "battle passes", always online.

It's not really black and white what is and isn't one though.

I don't think LEGO horizons made much of a splash and I'm not sure this one will. I believe Sony is over estimating the brand appeal of Horizon.

Yeah, my interest dropped a lot.

I'm not saying that's what is in this game, I don't know, just that those are the staples of a live service.

I do wonder if all these live services were all started back when the hype for hero shooters was high. If so, boy they have issues releasing things in a reasonable timeframe.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yeah, I got you.  I like coop games with a story campaign, like souls.  I'll be careful on this one, might not be what I am looking for.

Apparently the game started development way back in 2018, so yeah during the height of Overwatch and its ilk.

Those have nothing to do with each other. Just like multiplayer and shooter are not related to each other.
You can hove one without the other or you can have both or neither.
Live service pretty much translates to microtransactions and tends to have social element although not necessarily coop.

Honestly, doesn´t seem that impressive.
Like i´m not personally attracted to the NC Soft Horizon licence MMORPG but that seems deceent for what they are aiming for.

I kind of miss when Sony just did 2 or 3 installments of an IP and then left it to do something new.

So about 8 years of development for a game that couldn't release at a worse time. So many developers need to focus on delivering games faster, even if the games end up being smaller overall.
